Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Shreveport LA
305 PM CDT Wed Oct 27 2021

.SHORT TERM.../Now through Friday Night/

The unusually strong upper low driving the inclement weather
across the region today is current pushing into the Arklatex with
the attendant low pressure center basically centered over SW AR.
The main cold front is now pushing through east TX and could
trigger a few more showers and non-severe isolated thunderstorms
over northern zones through early this evening. However, the main
band of showers and storms is about to clear to the east of our
region and is running well out ahead of the actual front. The
remaining tornado watch for Caldwell and LaSalle parishes will be
canceled shortly and after that the risk for severe weather in
our forecast area will be very low.

So that leaves the main story for the forecast area through the
remainder of the short term to be the arrival of much cooler
temperatures on the backs of gusty winds. These winds will
increase across the area from the west tonight and could
necessitate a lake wind advisory being needed in western zones
later this evening. But the main west to northwest winds will
come tomorrow as widespread 15 to 25 mph sustained winds and gusts
over 30 mph are expected. In fact, these winds will likely be
even stronger across SE OK and portions of E TX along and west of
a Clarksville, to Longview, to Jacksonville line and in these
areas sustained winds could be up to 30 mph with gusts briefly
over 40 mph at times. Although we rarely issues regular Wind
Advisories, these expected speeds are enough to issue one for
these areas in this instance. Owing to the anomalous nature of
these gradients winds in our area we will issue these products
with the afternoon package. Expect winds to gradually wane from
tomorrow night through Friday night, although they still will
remain pretty strong over this period and could eventually require
additional Lake Wind Advisories.

In addition, moisture wrapping around the backside of the upper
low later tonight and tomorrow could bring some scattered light
showers to mainly northern zones with a broken cloud shield
extending much farther south than this. The clouds and winds will
keep temperatures from dropping off a great deal tonight, but will
also help limit temperature rise tomorrow. Expect lows tonight in
the 50s and highs tomorrow mainly in the 60s in most areas.
Lighter winds tomorrow night and Friday night should allow for
some 40s for lows with highs on Friday still mainly in the cool
40s with more sunshine than will be the case tomorrow. /50/

.LONG TERM.../Saturday through Wednesday Night/

Dry conditions to remain on Saturday as dry northwesterly flow will
continue across the region. Expect slightly below temperatures
with afternoon highs in the lower 70s along with overnight lows by
Sunday morning in the low to mid 40s. Dry conditions will continue
through the first of next week, but the upper pattern will become
more zonal. This will allow for a slight warming trend, albeit back
up to seasonal normals, with highs in the mid 70s and overnight lows
in the upper 40s to lower 50s.

Another longwave trough will start to dive southward across the
Plains by the start of the work week, driving another slow moving
cool front into the region. This will bring rain chances back into
the region for Tuesday and Wednesday along with slightly cooler
afternoon temperatures. /20/

&&

.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 1246 PM CDT Wed Oct 27 2021/

AVIATION...

A line of showers and thunderstorms progressing east through the
Four State region is creating TAF issues over most of the area,
although flight cat limitations are primarily MVFR at worst.
Expect south to southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph ahead of the storms
(ELD/MLU) with winds briefly turning to the northwest as the
storms pass. But then there will be a period of time (1 to 3
hours) where winds go slack before turning solidly from the west
later this afternoon through this evening as the main cold front
pushes through. This transition of winds is already happening at
TYR and will soon at GGG and LFK. Expect conditions to turn mainly
VFR behind front, but wrap around clouds and a few showers could
bring back in MVFR conditions to TXK and ELD later tonight into
midday tomorrow. South of these areas expect few to scattered
clouds late tonight into tomorrow with west winds gusting
potentially up to, or over, 30 mph by late morning to midday
tomorrow. /50/
