...A THUNDERSTORM WITH TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WILL IMPACT SOUTHWESTERN
MCDOWELL...NORTHWESTERN RUTHERFORD...NORTHEASTERN HENDERSON AND
SOUTHEASTERN BUNCOMBE COUNTIES UNTIL 745 PM EDT...

At 657 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a thunderstorm with
torrential rainfall 17 miles east of Downtown Asheville, or 5 miles
north of Chimney Rock Village, moving east at 15 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Swannanoa, Fairview In Buncombe County, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock
Village, Chimney Rock State Park, Bat Cave, Black Mountain, Old Fort,
Shingle Hollow and Sugar Hill.

Very heavy rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour will be possible in
these areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as
ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded
roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly. Seek
higher ground if threatened by flood waters.

...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of south central
McDowell and northeastern Rutherford Counties through 800 PM EDT...

At 731 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 7
miles north of Rutherfordton, moving east at 25 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
         unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
         possible.

Locations impacted include...
Forest City, Rutherfordton, Spindale, Ellenboro, Bostic, Green Hill,
Thermal City, Sunshine, Union Mills and Caroleen.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
