North Carolina, and the western Upstate of South Carolina.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to develop through
the evening hours, and possibly overnight. The main threats will be
cloud-to-ground lightning, heavy downpours, and gusty winds.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.

redeveloping overnight. The main threats will be cloud-to-ground
lightning, damaging wind gusts, and isolated large hail.

...A THUNDERSTORM WITH TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WILL IMPACT SOUTHWESTERN
MCDOWELL...NORTHWESTERN RUTHERFORD...NORTHEASTERN HENDERSON AND
SOUTHEASTERN BUNCOMBE COUNTIES UNTIL 745 PM EDT...

At 657 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a thunderstorm with
torrential rainfall 17 miles east of Downtown Asheville, or 5 miles
north of Chimney Rock Village, moving east at 15 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Swannanoa, Fairview In Buncombe County, Lake Lure, Chimney Rock
Village, Chimney Rock State Park, Bat Cave, Black Mountain, Old Fort,
Shingle Hollow and Sugar Hill.

Very heavy rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour will be possible in
these areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as
ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded
roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly. Seek
higher ground if threatened by flood waters.
