* Forecast...The river is cresting and will fall tonight through
Friday.
* Impact...At 23.0 feet, Major Flood Stage. Significant flooding of
secondary roads is likely ongoing. Floodwaters may be inundating
portions of US 64. Homes and commercial buildings within the
vicinity of US 64 and adjacent secondary roads may be threatened
by approaching or rising floodwaters. Floodwaters will reach
levels similar to 1994 with Tropical Storm Beryl.

A weak upper trough and abundant moisture will continue across the
region into the latter part of the week and through the weekend.
This will lead to periods of afternoon and evening showers and
thunderstorms each day. Temperatures will return to seasonal levels.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
As of 1030 AM EDT Wednesday: Considerably more suppressed today
with diurnally fired garden variety deep convection fcst to be
limited to just the high terrain. Not much of an air mass change
has taken place, with the sub-tropical humidity persisting, and
temps making it almost back to normal for mid- August. Any
showers will dissipate by the mid-evening, thereafter we will
look upstream to the arrival of some shower activity from the
west, which could reach the Smokies by daybreak on Thursday. Low
temps will remain mild.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
As of 145 AM EDT Wednesday...The weather pattern remains active thru
the short range. An upper trof swings across the region and pulls a
weak cold front into the NC mtns. This will keep a good chance of
shra/tstms across the higher terrain with more isol to sct convec
likely over the non/mtns. Soundings show weak shear thru the layer,
while sbCAPE values remain in the lower range. Moisture thru the
column will remain rather high, with PWATS hovering arnd 1.8-2.0
inches each afternoon. With slow moving and possibly anchoring
storms, there could be localized hydro issues as antecedent soil
moisture conds will remain high end. Max and min temps will remain
seasonal each day.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 210 AM EDT Wednesday...No sigfnt changes were made to the ext
range fcst. A weak upper low will persist across the Oh Valley into
Mon and make for deep nw/ly flow aloft and weak forcing. This will
maintain fairly warm mid-levels before a subTrop high over the srn
Plains shifts east and becomes more dominant thru the end of the
period. Surface based instability will be hard to come by, but enuf
likely each afternoon for pulse type storms. Deep layered moisture
wanes, which will lower the chance for high precip rate storms and
elevated hydro concerns. Basically a return to more seasonal weather
with highs and lows right arnd normal levels.

.AVIATION /15Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Mop-up continues early this morning. An
MVFR/IFR cloud deck will linger across the region thru mid-morning
before lifting and starting to break up. Only sct low clouds are
expected thru the rest of the day. Some showers/storms will pop
up mainly in the afternoon, but coverage will be limited mainly
to the higher terrain, thus only KAVL warrants a PROB30 at this
time. Clouds should melt away with sunset. Wind should stay S to
SW thru the period. Mtn valley fog will impact KAVL again around
daybreak Thursday.
Outlook: Back to the normal diurnal summertime convection for the
latter part of the week. Widespread low stratus and areas of fog
are expected each morning thru at least late-week.
