The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Western Catawba County in the piedmont of North Carolina...
* Until 415 AM EDT.
* At 1021 PM EDT, Extremely intense rainfall from a band of
thunderstorms has just moved through western Catawba County,
including over the Hickory metro area. These storms quickly
produced 1-3 inches of rainfall in about 60 minutes. The
intensity of these storms over such a short period of time may
cause areas of flash flooding, especially in the Hickory to
Conover area over the next 1-2 hours. Please avoid low-lying
areas adjacent to streams, low-water crossings, and all flooded
roadways.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING IS CANCELLED FOR WESTERN CATAWBA COUNTY...
The heavy rain has ended across Catawba County, including the
Hickory metro area. Small streams across the area have crested and
receded below critical levels. However, additional rises along the
Catawba River are likely overnight into Wednesday afternoon and new
areas of river and reservoir flooding may develop. Residents along
or downstream of Catawba River lakes should pay close attention to
lake levels through Wednesday. Please continue to heed all
barricades which remain in place to ensure roadway safety.
