to a few inches over southern Union County. The system will also 
produce very strong north winds with gusts around 60 mph producing
blizzard-like conditions late Tuesday night and early Wednesday. 
The strongest winds should occur Wednesday morning, while the snow
is tapering off, but blowing snow will continue to make travel 
hazardous.

...VERY STRONG WIND AND SNOW FOR SOME AREAS TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY
MORNING...

.SYNOPSIS...
Another storm system will cross from the west Tuesday through
Wednesday morning with hazardous wind and snow. A few to several
inches of snow are expected across northern areas east of the
continental divide with the heaviest snow in the mountains and from
Raton Pass to around Mount Dora. There will also be strong winds
across central and eastern areas Tuesday and Tuesday night. Strong
winds will then linger across northeast areas Wednesday. After drier
and warmer weather during the latter half of the week, another storm
system will cross from the west Sunday through Monday with additional
wind and precipitation.

.DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...(TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT)...
Deterministic models have come into better agreement about the low
that will trek just to the south of the Four Corners region on
Tuesday, bringing cooler temperatures, strong winds, and
precipitation across western and northern portions of the state.
Strong winds will begin across high elevations over the south
central mountains early Tuesday, where a High Wind Warning has been
issued. Gusts up to 60 mph are possible. In addition, deep mixing and
700 mb winds near 50 kts have led to the decision to issue Wind
Advisories from southeastern zones of the forecast area (east of
Interstate 25 through Chaves County). With weak CAPE, steep lapse
rates, and negative LI's, a rumble of thunder can't be ruled out
across the northern mountains Tuesday afternoon. As the low deepens
and rapidly moves eastward toward the NM/TX border late Tuesday, wrap
around precipitation across the northeast plains. This could turn
into a dire situation with blizzard-like conditions possible due to
strong northerly winds from a backdoor cold front. Precipitation
continues through Wednesday.

LONG TERM...(WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY)...
As the upper level low pressure system gradually exits eastward
across the TX panhandle on Wednesday morning another inch or so of
accumulation is expected over NE areas, potentially bringing storm
total accumulations to 3-13 inches from Raton Pass to Mount Dora. The
rest of the northern mountains should accumulate a few to 8 inches of
snow Tuesday and Tuesday night, with lighter amounts of an inch or
two in surrounding lowlands and southeastward across the east central
plains. With this package we will issue Winter Storm Watch for the
area from Raton Pass to Clayton, where very strong wind will also
develop in the wake of the deepening and exiting system creating
blizzard-like conditions. Sustained winds over 35 mph and gusts
over 60 mph will be possible from Raton to Clayton late Tuesday night
and Wednesday morning. Since the strongest winds look to be
displaced mainly to the south of the area of heaviest snow (along the
CO border), opted not to issue a Blizzard Watch. However, a Blizzard
Warning may ultimately be issued if the focus for stronger winds
shifts a little further north. Wind gusts to 60 mph will also be
possible further south across the far east central plains and the
Caprock Wednesday morning, but any snowfall looks light there/then.

After high temperatures a few to 20 degrees below normal on
Wednesday, a ridge of high pressure will cross during the latter half
of the week with rebounding temperatures. Highs should peak Saturday
around 4 to 14 degrees above normal. After weaker winds during the
latter half of the work week, southwest flow will become breezy again
Saturday as a lee trough develops and the flow aloft strengthens
ahead of our next storm system.

Sunday through Monday, an upper level trough is forecast to cross
from the west with a moderate tap of subtropical moisture. Widespread
rain showers, high terrain snow showers, and some potentially strong
thunderstorms will be possible, as well as strong winds over
southeast areas.

.FIRE WEATHER...

...RED FLAG WARNING FOR THE EAST CENTRAL PLAINS FROM NOON TO
7 PM MDT TUESDAY...

The next storm system arrives on Tuesday with wetting precipitation
for western and northern areas of the state, strong winds, and even
a thunderstorm or two. Strong winds, low relative humidities, near to
above normal temperatures, and an unstable airmass will result in
critical fire weather conditions across the east central plains
Tuesday afternoon and evening. Thus, a Red Flag Warning has been
issued. As the low moves eastward towards the NM/TX border Tuesday
night, rain and snow showers are possible from the northeast corner
of the state through the east central plains. Precipitation is
likely to linger into mid-day Wednesday, before the system exits.

There will be a warming trend Thursday through the end of the week,
where temperatures reach above normal across almost all of northern
and central New Mexico. Breezy to windy conditions occur in the
afternoon Friday and Saturday, mainly east of the central mountain
chain, but no critical fire weather conditions exist during this
time.

Another storm is possible Sunday and Monday next week, as well as
Tuesday and Wednesday for another round of cooler temperatures,
strong winds, and precipitation.

.AVIATION...
18Z TAF CYCLE
VFR conditions to prevail through most of the TAF period. Breezy to
locally windy conditions will develop along and east of the central
mountain chain this afternoon with gusts up to 20-30kts, also
including KGUP. Winds will begin increasing over the southwestern and
south central mountains tonight, as a low pressure system approaches
from the west. Westerly winds will begin to increase from KGUP to
KLVS towards the end of the TAF period. Brief MVFR or even LIFR
conditions are possible for KFMN and KGUP tomorrow morning during
light to occasionally moderate rain and snow showers, as well as
mountain obscurations.

A storm system will cross New Mexico on Tuesday. Strong winds with
gusts between 40 and 50 mph are expected near and south of I-40,
though damaging winds will be possible across the South Central
Mountains and southwest Chaves County where gusts near 60 mph will be
possible. Critical fire weather conditions may also return for the
east central plains due to the strong winds and low humidity values.
Snow will be focused over the Northern Mountains Tuesday and
northeast New Mexico Tuesday night through mid day Wednesday. Blowing
