A longwave trough has dropped out of the Rockies and will slowly
swing through the midsection of the country, reaching the
Mississippi River late Thursday. This slow process should give the
local area ample time to increase moisture throughout the column.
Model soundings show PW's peaking around 1.7". Low and mid level
winds will dramatically increase today with trough getting closer.
This will provide ample shear with 0-6km shear upwards of 60 to 70
knots. Winds throughout the column are mostly unidirectional. As
temps warm into the mid 70s, the atmosphere will destabilize and
storms should become surface based by noon. Mid level cooling from
the system coming in will steepen lapse rates with LI's around -6
and MU CAPE around 1200j/kg. WBZ isn't very impressive, around
12kft. So, hail probably won't be an issue. Based on the overall
picture, thinking this will be a damaging wind event with a few
tornadoes possible. SPC maintained a slight risk across the entire
CWA fits well with severe parameters noted above. Meso models (HRRR,
HRW NSSL, and NAMNest) all pinging on ramp up starting around noon
with a second bout of storms rolling through around 6pm. That second
round may be the stronger of the two.
After the first 2 waves of storms move through, a third wave of rain
looks to impact the southeastern portion of the CWA Wednesday night
into Thursday morning. Will be watching the MS coast more closely
for a Flash Flood flooding potential as they could be seeing
rainfall totals averaging 2 to 4 inches. FFA remains in effect for
that particuar area.
The rain will be ending late Thursday afternoon/evening as the main
axis of the trough swings through. This should provide a weekend of
pleasant weather with temps in the realm of climatology for a day or
so before warming above normal. The GFS and ECMWF now are showing
the potential for rain Saturday as a secondary cold front swings
through. Any rain will probably be brief with low impacts as
moisture return before the front should be limited.

.AVIATION...Ceilings through this taf cycle will range from LIFR to
VFR. Most terminals will have BKN003 ceilings moving in and out with
pervailing ceilings at OVC010 to OVC040. Areas of -RA will also be
another prevailing condition or at the very least VCSH. There will
also be a good chance of receiving TS at each site but at different
times. South shore and Miss gulf coast sites will see best chances
from 11am to 4pm and again from 9pm today through 8am Thursday. BTR,
ASD, HUM, MCB best chances will be from 5pm to 10pm. Winds will also
be quite gusty today around 25kt.

.MARINE...Advisories will be raised today as the next strong cold
front moves near and through the coastal waters. This front should
move through Thursday morning. Strong NW winds of 30 to 35 kt with
higher gusts are expected behind the front through Thu night and a
gale watch will be issued for that time frame. Winds will ease back
to Westerly at around 10kt by the weekend.
