...The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Flood 
Warning for portions of the following waterway in south central 
Indiana...

  Flatrock River...

.Additional lowland flooding is expected along several rivers and 
creeks in south central Indiana as a result of over 3 inches of rain 
that fell across the area.  Flooding along smaller streams and 
creeks will last through the day Friday with flooding along main 
stem rivers continuing into next week.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  morning.
* At 5.4 feet...At this level on April 25, 2011...Bartholomew CR 400N 
  was closed by high water for the second time is less than a week.  
  It had been very wet during this time.  Flooding of at least one 
  Shelby county road is likely.

flood category from Minor to Moderate severity for the following 
rivers and streams

.Flooding at Flatrock River at Saint Paul and Youngs Creek at Amity 
have been upgraded to Moderate stage based off of current 
observations. Both of these points are approaching crest and should 
start falling later today.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  Big Blue River...Driftwood River...East Fork White River...Flatrock 
  River...Haw Creek...Mississinewa River...Sugar Creek...Wabash 
  River...White River...Wildcat Creek...Youngs Creek...


.Widespread minor flooding will continue or is expected soon along 
area rivers and streams, especially along the East Fork White basin 
where 2 to 4 inches of rain fell. Flooding of smaller creeks and 
streams will last through the day with flooding along main stem 
rivers lasting through next week.

Rapid rises are expected through this afternoon with several points 
approaching or even briefly exceeding moderate flood stage. 

Those with interests along area waterways should pay close attention 
to changing river conditions and updated forecasts over the next 
several days and into next week.

* Forecast...It will rise to near 13.5 feet by Saturday afternoon 
  then begin falling. It will fall below flood stage Sunday evening.
* At 13.2 feet...Lowland flooding in progress along Driftwood River in
  northern Bartholomew County on April 6, 2011. Double Y Saddle Club 
  area flooded.  At least 6 inches of water flowing over CR 950N to 
  Club. Water is less than one foot away from CR 330W just south of 
  its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd. CR 500N west of CR 250W is 
  flooded blocking vehicular access to residences near the river 
  bank. Lowell Public Access site is open but ramp is totally 
  flooded. Water close to one residence at Shelby CR 1000S and CR 
  900W.

  gravel pit begins to flood.  Livestock and equipment must be 
  relocated to higher ground.  High water surrounds river residences 
  near Rockford.  CR 760 E south of river gaging station is 
  impassable.

  Creek.

  Most of bottomlands flood.  Old Vincennes road and State Road 358 
  between Plainville and Edwardsport are impassable by several feet.
  High water surrounds river cabins.  This type of flood occurs on

.Widespread flooding continues along many rivers and streams in 
central and southern Indiana this evening. A few sites have or will 
briefly go into moderate flood over the next 12 to 36 hours. 
Otherwise, lowland flooding will continue. Lowland flooding will be 
extensive in some areas, particularly across southern and 
southwestern portions of central Indiana.

This flooding will impact extensive agricultural land, numerous 
local and a few state roads, river parks, and other low areas near 
waterways. All those with interests along local streams and rivers 
should pay close attention to changing river conditions and 
forecasts at least over the next several days and perhaps through 
the end of the month at a few locations.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Persons with interests in flood prone areas that are not protected by
levees should take precautions immediately. Keep children from 
flooded areas. Motorists should travel high ground routes and avoid 
roads that frequently flood.

Many roads in southern Indiana will be flooded by several feet of 
water. Do not even think about driving through flooded roads..You 
will not make it.

  weeks later in the summer season than the June 28, 1960 crest of 
  15.1 feet and is believed to be the latest for the summer season

  its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd. CR 500N west of CR 250W is 
  flooded blocking vehicular access to residences near the river 
  bank. Lowell Public Access site is open but ramp is totally 
  flooded. Water close to one residence at Shelby CR 1000S and CR 
  900W.

Issued at 305 AM EDT Fri Mar 20 2020

A cold front will drop southeast across central Indiana this morning
and early afternoon. This will bring an end to the showers but bring
in much colder temperatures.

The next chance of showers will be Sunday and Sunday night when a
Plains system moves in. Warmer temperatures will return by next
Wednesday and showers will again be possible at times next Tuesday
through Thursday as two more systems move through.

.NEAR TERM /Today/...

Issued at 314 AM EDT Fri Mar 20 2020

Temperatures will be rapidly falling through the day in the
aftermath of the passage of a surface cold front. As of 3 AM, the
front was located across northwest Illinois and is expected to
move through central Indiana during the mid morning hours.
Flooding will be a concern through the day today as a result of
over 3 inches of rain that fell across south central Indiana
yesterday and through the overnight hours. The bulk of the rain
will exit the area over the next few hours with additional light
precipitation possible as the front passes during the mid morning
hours today.

Winds will be gusting in excess of 30 mph at times today as a
result of the frontal passage and strong pressure gradient forces
that are in play. Morning temperatures will be in the low to mid
60s with temps in the upper 30s in the northern counties by this
evening.

.SHORT TERM...(Tonight through Sunday night)
Issued at 305 AM EDT Fri Mar 20 2020

Models in good agreement that Canadian high pressure will move
across the Great Lakes and bring dry but much colder weather to
central Indiana through Saturday night. Blend temperatures look
reasonable with overnight lows tonight 25 to 30 degrees and highs on
Saturday only in the 40s.

As the high moves into Quebec on Sunday, an upper system will
approach from the central Plains and a weak inverted system will
stretch from Louisiana to eastern Kentucky. This will bring more
showers in. Light snow could briefly mix in at the onset Sunday
morning over southwestern parts and prior to moving out overnight
Sunday night over eastern parts. This should not be impactful.

With the Canadian high to the northeast, temperatures should recover
a few degrees on Sunday.

.LONG TERM /Monday through Thursday/...

Models in good agreement that ridging will result in dry weather to
start off the long term. However, a Plains system will bring more
rain showers to the area Tuesday and Tuesday night. Decent return
flow in advance of this system lends good confidence in decent
coverage.

After that, confidence not is great in PoPs. That said, a weak low
pressure system could bring more rain showers to the area, mainly
Thursday per the blend.

Good confidence that near normal temperatures in the 50s on Monday
will moderate to above normal by Wednesday with 60s looking good per
the blend.
