.UPDATE...

With convection rapidly developing over the north and central
over the last hour, scattered showers and thunderstorms are
ongoing across the forecast area. Clearing skies this morning
allowed for quick diurnal heating and rapid destabilization, with
SBCAPE values ranging from 2500-3500 J/kg. A line of thunderstorms
associated with the upper level shortwave embedded within the
northwesterly flow aloft has furthermore entered far northern
Georgia. This complex is expected to hold together as it pushes
south this afternoon and evening. With greater than originally
anticipated across the forecast area, there is a chance for some
thunderstorms to become strong to severe. Damaging winds will be
the primary hazard with any severe thunderstorm that occur.
Locally heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and hail up to 1 inch
are also possible.

SHORT TERM /Today through Tuesday/...
A stalled out frontal boundary was the initial impetus for
convection across North GA but NW flow transitioned the activity
quickly across Central GA where activity is finally dying out.
Have kept in low end pops for the remainder of the overnight period
as we continue to see some activity from time to time across North
GA at this hour.

Looks to be an active day across the area as a strong shortwave
moves through the Tennessee Valley and into North GA at the prime
heating hours. Although instability is not all that impressive in
the models, complex should be maintained as it progresses through
the forecast area. With precipitable water values around 2 inches
and aforementioned marginal instability, will go with likely pops
for the entire area. Scattered strong and isolated severe storms
will be likely with this activity.

Focus will shift to Central GA for Tuesday as shortwave energy
progresses past the northern portions. Still enough moisture and
instability for all areas to warrant at least low end chance pops
but 2.10 PW values over Central GA warrants continued high end
chance to low end likely values. With light flow and persistent
convection , will need to watch for localized flooding.

Generally 100 to 105 for heat indices through the short term and
focused on Central GA. Enough to make a mention in the HWO but no
advisories needed.

LONG TERM /Tuesday Night through Sunday/...
A somewhat typical summertime pattern will be in store for
the long term highly characterized by weak flow aloft and broad
weak surface high pressure with an embedded surface trough across
the area. The nature of the upper flow will allow for weak short
waves to move to the area that would enhance the chances for showers
and thunderstorms along with abundant moisture with daytime instability.
The shower and thunderstorm chances will favor the afternoon and
evening but not necessarily end at night.

The abundant moisture across the area will also lead to heat indices
in the 100 to 105 range for at least portions of north and central GA
through the weekend, with spotty heat indices of 105 to 110 on Wednesday.

.AVIATION...
18Z Update...
Primarily VFR conditions are in place at all TAF sites as the
period begins, and in spite of some MVFR ceilings associated with
TSRA, should continue through the remainder of today. Scattered
TSRA is ongoing across the forecast area and is expected to
increase in coverage this afternoon as a line of storms in north
Georgia pushes south. A TEMPO group for TSRA is in place from
18-22Z, but will likely need to be extended in ensuing TAF
updates. Patchy fog and vsby restrictions are possible overnight
where heavy rain occurs, particularly in central Georgia near MCN.
While some gusty winds are expected with any TSRA that occurs,
the prevailing winds will remain W to NW through the period, at
5-8 kts this afternoon and 5 kts or less overnight.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North and
Central Georgia.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight...

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected over north and
central Georgia, most so this afternoon into tonight. A few storms
will be strong to severe with damaging winds, frequent lightning and
locally heavy rainfall.

Heat indices of 100 to 105 can be expected over central and portions
of north Georgia this afternoon. Those outside for prolonged
periods should make sure to take precautions from the heat.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday...

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected Tuesday through
Sunday. A few storms will be strong to severe with damaging winds,
frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.

Heat indices of 100 to 105 can be expected over central and portions
of north Georgia through the weekend. Tuesday and Wednesday will be
the hottest days with spotty heat indices of 105 to 110. Those outside
for prolonged periods should make sure to take precautions from the
heat.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Spotter activation is not requested but spotters are encouraged
to submit reports of severe weather through the web by going to
weather.gov/atlanta.  Please relay any information about observed severe
weather to the NWS while following all local, state, and CDC guidelines.

At 233 PM EDT...a strong thunderstorm was over Americus...moving
south at 5 mph.

  HAZARD...Up to 40 mph wind...pea sized hail and frequent cloud to
           ground lightning.

  IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
           light...unsecured objects.

Some locations in the path of this storm include
Americus, Plains, Leslie, De Soto, Desoto, Cobb, Sumter, Lamar,
Croxton Crossroads, New Era, Huntington, Maddox and Methvins.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. If you can hear

Cassville to Canton, Cumming and Gainesville, moving southeast at 10
mph.

  HAZARD...Winds up to 40 mph, pea sized hail, frequent lightning
           and heavy rain.

  IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
           light, unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
           street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.

Some locations in the path of these storms include
Gainesville, Canton, Cartersville, Jefferson, Cumming, Roswell, Johns
Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, Kennesaw, Duluth, Woodstock, Acworth,
Sugar Hill, Suwanee, Buford, Holly Springs, Braselton, Auburn and
Flowery Branch.
