Warning for the following rivers in Georgia...

  West Chickamauga Creek near Fort Oglethorpe affecting Catoosa and 
  Hamilton Counties

  Conasauga River near Tilton affecting Gordon...Murray and 
  Whitfield Counties

  Big Creek near Alpharetta affecting Forsyth and Fulton Counties


.Recent and forecast heavy rainfall will cause significant runoff into streams
and rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.

  The West Chickamauga Creek near Fort Oglethorpe.
* From late tonight until Thursday evening.
* At 3 PM Tuesday the stage was 10.2 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 11 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by after midnight and 
  continue to rise to near 11.5 feet by tomorrow evening. The creek 
  will fall below flood stage by Thursday early afternoon.
* At 11.0 feet...Flood Stage is reached. Minor flooding begins of 
  woodlands and fields near the creek upstream and downstream from 
  the gage on the Georgia Highway 146 or Cloud Springs Road bridge. 
  Minor flooding of the creek can also be expected further downstream
  as it crosses the Tennessee border into the south East Ridge area.

* At 3 PM Tuesday the stage was 6.3 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage tonight and continue to rise 
  to near 8.8 feet by early Thursday morning. The creek will fall 
  below flood stage by Friday morning.
* At 9.0 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek from near 
  Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale 
  Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia begin to
  flood. The Big Creek Greenway experiences significant flooding up 
  to 3 feet deep...which results in closure of most of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a foot of water.

  afternoon then continue rising, reaching near 20 feet by Thursday 
  afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage by late Friday 
  morning.
* Between 15 and 18 feet, bankfull conditions occur along the river 
  upstream and downstream from the gage on the Brackett Ridge Road 
  bridge.
  
  At 18 feet, minor flooding begins in the woodlands, fields and 
  pastures along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  the Brackett Ridge Road bridge.

* From early tomorrow until Friday morning.
* At 845 PM Tuesday the stage was 6.4 feet, and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* The creek is forecast to rise above flood stage by early Wednesday 
  then continue rising, reaching near 8.7 feet by early Thursday 
  morning. The river will fall below flood stage by Friday morning.
* At 6 feet, bankfull conditions are reached along the creek between 
  Cumming in Forsyth County and Alpharetta and Roswell in North Fulton 
  County. Some low lying spots along The Big Creek Greenway will be 
  flooded with a few inches of water upstream and downstream from the 
  gage on Kimball Bridge Road. Water will begin to enter low portions 
  of the YMCA Campground off Preston Ridge Road.
  
  At 7 feet, minor flooding of woodlands and fields begins along the 
  creek between Cumming in Forsyth County and Alpharetta and Roswell 
  in North Fulton County. Flooding starts to effect portions of The 
  Big Creek Greenway near Alpharetta and some portions may become 
  closed with around one foot of water, especially upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on Kimball Bridge Road and near Rock Mill 
  Park. Portions of the YMCA Campground off Preston Ridge Road will 
  begin to flood.

  At 9 feet, minor flooding expands along the creek from near Cumming 
  to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale Drive and

  McFarland Road will be covered with around one foot of water. A

  The Broad River near Carlton.
* Until Thursday afternoon.
* At 10 AM Wednesday the stage was 15.4 feet...and 
  rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Flood stage is 15 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 17.5 feet by this evening. 
  The river will fall below flood stage tomorrow morning.
* At 18 feet...Minor flooding will expand further into the 
  woodlands and fields along the river upstream and downstream from 
  the gage on the Georgia Highway 72 bridge. A sand dredge operation 
  on the left bank near the gage will become flooded. A large portion
  of Roy Wood Road will be flooded with several feet of water and the
  Broad River Outpost for Canoes and Kayaks location will be under 
  water. Flooding of the yard behind an assisted living home off of

* At 8 PM Wednesday the stage was 8.5 feet...and slowly rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 8.5 feet by midnight.
  The river will fall below flood stage Thursday late evening.
* At 9 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek from near 
  Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale 
  Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia begin to
  flood. The Big Creek Greenway experiences significant flooding up 
  to 3 feet deep...which results in closure of most of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a foot of water.

.SHORT TERM /Rest of today through Wednesday Night/...

Main focus of fcst will largely be the strong to severe storm threat
in the near term and tonight period. An upper shortwave looks to
amplify some across the area late this afternoon into overnight.
While a lingering wedge has persisted in the northeast, mainly from
northern half of the Atlanta Metro over to Athens and northward, the
other portion of the CWA has had more destabilization with some
scattering of stratocu and increased daytime heating. The RAP even
has an axis of progged SBCAPE getting up to near 1500 J/kg going
into this evening ahead of the trough. With ample low and deep layer
shear expected, the Slight to Marginal severe outlook looks well
justified for damaging winds with any bowing segments, along with
hail and isolated tornado threats. The HREF probs for STP greater
than 1 do get above 90 percent for late afternoon into evening
across mainly western portions of the CWA, though any localized
interaction with the aforementioned wedge front could focus an
increased risk for stronger rotating convection and will need to be
monitored.

Otherwise expecting a drying postfrontal regime for Wednesday and a
switch to NW flow aloft. Should still be pleasant above normal temps
getting into the 70s for most areas then lows in the upper 40s to
50s Wednesday night.

.LONG TERM /Thursday through Tuesday/...

The highlights of the extended forecast are above average
temperatures with a couple dry days followed by a late weekend
frontal passage.

The forecast picks up on Thursday morning with northwesterly mid-
/upper-level flow and a surface high sinking providing dry
conditions through Friday. South to southwesterly lower and upper
level flow returns on Saturday ahead of developing surface low over
the Midwest region. PoPs increase through the day Saturday into
Sunday as the associated cold front approaches and sweeps through
the CWA. Models have come into better alignment with the timing of
this system with some minor discrepancies in precipitation amounts,
ranging between .01 and .25 inches.

Medium range models bring in quasi-zonal flow with a weak surface
high over the Ohio River Valley on Monday then begin major to have
major disagreement through the rest of the extended forecast.
Currently, the GFS has the development of a faster and more
progressive mid-level over the Appalachians on Tuesday while the
ECMWF has a more amplified mid-level trough with a surface low
developing over the SE. Regardless, rain chances look to continue
into early next week even though confidence remains low on potential
system impacts.

High temperatures should remain above average through the period,
except on Sunday and Monday, thanks to the aforementioned cold
front. Lows should remain above average through the rest of the
extended.

LIFR/IFR cigs lingering near KAHN, with 2500-3500 ft range and some
VCSH for other sites. Shower and TSRA coverage increases this
evening, mainly in the 02-06z period for the northern sites then
later south. Strong to severe storms possible as well so could
have stronger gusts in any development. Expecting return of some
IFR cigs close to 800 ft near KATL overnight and MVFR vsbys before
front passes through (cigs a bit lower for KAHN and higher for
southern sites). SW winds mainly 7-12 kts with some gusts near
18kts for KATL. Should shift more west to NW by Wednesday morning.

EASTERN JACKSON AND NORTHERN CLARKE COUNTIES UNTIL 130 PM EDT...

At 1257 PM EDT...a strong thunderstorm was over Nicholson, or near
Commerce...moving east at 35 mph.

  HAZARD...Frequent cloud to ground lightning and heavy rain.

  IMPACT...Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. If you can
           hear thunder...you are close enough to be struck by
           lightning. Heavy rain may cause temporary street flooding
           especially in poor drainage areas.

Commerce, Danielsville, Nicholson, Comer, Colbert, Ila, Carlton,
Athens-Clarke County, Pocataligo, Diamond Hill, Sandy Creek
Recreation Area, Paoli, Apple Valley and Neese.

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately.  Electrical
