  The Oconee River near Penfield.
* From late this afternoon until Saturday afternoon.
* At 5 AM Wednesday the stage was 11.8 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 13 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by late Wednesday afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 17.1 feet by Thursday evening. The river 
  is then expected to fall below flood stage by Saturday morning.
* At 17 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand into fields...
  woodlands and pastures near the river. The water level is very 
  close to Ward Road on the right bank. Flood waters will be 
  approaching irrigation systems and they may need to be moved to 
  higher ground.

* Until this morning.
* At 4 AM Wednesday the stage was 26.3 feet and rising quickly.
* Minor flooding is occurring and will continue.
* Flood stage is 22 feet.
* Expected to rise to near 32 feet by late Wednesday morning.
* At 32 feet...Moderate flooding begins and expands further 
  into the woodlands and pastures along the river. Fishing Creek 
  continues to back up and spread further into woodland areas and 
  covers some roads in low lying areas. Tanyard Branch Stream 
  continues to flood. Sinclair Dam will likely have five gates open 
  to reach this height.

* At 21 feet...Moderate flooding begins. The dirt parking lot by 
  the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp is under one to three feet of 
  water. The end of Old Balls Ferry Road begins to flood. Flooding

  pastures upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280.
  Some homes on Dead River Road in the south end of Montgomery County
  become surrounded by water. Water begins to cover lower portions of

* At 4 AM Wednesday the stage was 6.7 feet and falling.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Flood stage is 6 feet.
* The river is expected to continue to fall below flood stage by 
  Wednesday morning.
* At 7 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand into the natural 
  flood plain of the creek upstream and downstream from the gage at 
  Atlanta Highway or Georgia Highway 9. Large portions of the 
  sidewalk and boardwalk of the Big Creek Greenway will be flooded. 
  The areas under the Georgia 400 Highway and McFarland Road will be 
  covered with around two feet of water. A portion of the sidewalk 
  under Majors Road will be covered with around 3 feet of water.

  The Big Creek near Alpharetta.
* Until Friday afternoon.
* At 4 AM Wednesday the stage was 9.1 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* The river is forecast to continue rising to near 9.5 feet by 
  Wednesday evening, then fall below flood stage Friday morning.
* At 10 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek from near 
  Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale 
  Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are 
  under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences 
  significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Mill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a two feet of 
  water.

  The Chattahoochee River near Whitesburg.
* From late this afternoon until Thursday evening.
* At 5 AM Wednesday the stage was 13.7 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 17 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by late Wednesday afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 18.5 feet by Thursday morning. The river 
  is then expected to fall below flood stage by Thursday afternoon.
* At 19 feet...Minor flooding continues in the woodlands and fields
  upstream and downstream from the gage at U.S. Highway 27 or Georgia
  Highway 16. The parking lot of Riverside Park next to the bridge 
  will begin to flood. A sod farm upstream also experiences flooding.
  Flooding occurs on some unimproved dirt roads along the river. The 
  playground at a day use area in the Chattahoochee Bend State Park 
  will be under two feet of water. Flood waters will surround tent 
  platforms on the North Camping Site of the park.

  of the Suwanee Creek Greenway and trails are flooded from the 
  Suwanee Creek Park to George Pierce Park. The minor flooding will 
  also begin to affect portions of the playground area behind the 
  Suwanee Elementary School.

  Riverdale Road and Georgia Highway 138. Some roads begin to flood

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 11 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue 
  to rise to near 14.0 feet by Thursday morning. The river is then
  forecast to fall below flood stage by late Thursday evening.
* At 13 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand into the 
  woodlands...fields and pasture along the river upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on Gees Mill Road in Rockdale County. Most
  of Sockwell Road by the river in Newton County will be flooded with
  up to 4 feet of water. Minor flooding also occurs in Newton County 
  in the Riverside Estates Travel and Trailer Park. Any trailers near
  the river may need to be moved to higher ground. A playground by 
  the river will begin to flood.

...Flood Warning extended until Thursday morning...The Flood Warning 
continues for
  The Middle Oconee River near Arcade.
* From this morning until Thursday morning.
* At 4 AM Wednesday the stage was 11.9 feet and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by this morning and continue to 
  rise to near 19.5 feet by this afternoon. The river is then expected 
  to fall below flood stage by after midnight tomorrow.
* At 20 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the 
  woodlands...fields and pasture upstream and downstream from the 
  gage at Georgia Highway 82. A few dirt access roads and a 
  residential yard just downstream will be flooded with up to 4 feet

* At 10 AM Wednesday the stage was 8.3 feet...and falling.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 8 feet.
* The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by this 
  afternoon.
* At 8 feet...Flood Stage is reached. Minor flooding begins along 
  the creek upstream and downstream from the gage at U S Highway 23 
  or Buford Highway. Portions of the Suwanee Creek Park off of 
  Suwanee Creek Trail begin to flood to Martin Farm Road. This will 
  also include areas behind the Suwanee Elementary School and the 
  George Pierce Park.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 325 PM EST Tue Feb 18 2020/

SHORT TERM /Tonight through Wednesday Night/...

Current satellite loop shows showers and isolated thunderstorms
moving east across the southeastern states. These storms are
associated with a frontal boundary extending from the New england
states to the TX/MX border. This boundary is expected to move slowly
SE through GA and stall somewhere across south GA Wednesday evening.
Precip is expected to continue across the area through the short
term but they will tapper off a bit Wed afternoon especially across
areas N of the Interstate 20 corridor. The main area of precip is
across N GA but it will slide slowly south with the frontal movement
over the next 24 to 36 hours. We have see 1 to 2 inches across areas
south of an Atlanta to Augusta line with some isolated 3 inch
amounts over the past 24 hours. With this boundary moving through
the CWA we could see an additional 1 to 2 inches through Wednesday
night. This is the main reason we have issued a Flash flood watch
for portions of North and Central GA. There is some low CAPE
developing this afternoon but shear params continue to remain
limited. With this in mind we are still not expecting and strong to
severe storms with this system.

Temps still expected to stay a bit on the warm side tonight and
Wednesday with lows in the 40s and 50s and highs in the 50s and 60s.
slightly cooler air moves into N GA Wed night behind the frontal
boundary with lows expected in the 30 and 40s.

LONG TERM /Thursday through Tuesday/...

Same story, different day. Rounds of on and off rain provided by
multiple frontal passages in combination with several upper level
disturbances will move through the area within the long term period.

Mid-level zonal flow with short-wave surface perturbations will
bring a round of rain to the area ahead of an approaching cold front
at the start of the forecast period on Thursday. As the trough digs
in behind the front, there is the possibility of wintry mix across
portions of north Georgia Thursday night, especially across the
higher elevations. Some light accumulations cannot be ruled out and
amounts could change closer to the event.

The front should exit the CWA on Friday which will give a brief
reprieve from the rain on Saturday with slight upper level ridging
and a surface high building in over the SE. SW mid and upper level
flow will return on Sunday evening with a surface low developing on
Monday over the Great Plains region, with precipitation expected to
return mid week ahead of another cold front.

High temperatures will run 10-20 degrees below normal on Thursday
through Sunday.

00Z Update...
A few breaks in the IFR/LIFR around the ATL metro possible for
the next couple of hours, but do expect CIGs to fill back into IFR
by 03Z. Some patchy LIFR is possible. A cold front will move
through overnight, and some improvement in CIGs is possible right
around 12Z WED. Very light surface winds right now, with
convection influencing some of the directions. Should be a switch
over to the SW side by 02-03Z, with speeds of 5kt or less. Winds
should switch around to the E late tomorrow as a wedge builds in.
Thunder is possible for the next couple of hours.

.DAY ONE...This Afternoon and Tonight...

A flash flood watch is in effect for portions of north and
central Georgia through Wednesday afternoon. Heavy rain will be
possible with ponding on roadways and some nuisance flooding,
especially in low-lying or highly urbanized areas.

There is also a slight chance of thunderstorms across parts of
north and central Georgia today and tonight. Some storms could be
strong to severe with the main threat being damaging winds.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday...

Periods of possible heavy rain could occur through Thursday.
Please monitor forecast updates if there is an increased threat of
flooding. Also, the interaction of some colder air could allow
for some transition to light snow in parts of far northeast
Georgia for Thursday evening. Some light accumulations cannot be
ruled out so please monitor future updates. Otherwise, no
hazardous weather is expected at this time.

  IMPACT...Expect minor damage to tree limbs and blowing around of
           light...unsecured objects. Heavy rain may cause temporary
           street flooding especially in poor drainage areas.
