Various boundaries rotating around the periphery of the low. Mesoscale influences abound as the low has become vertically stacked and not going anywhere quickly. A weak warm frontal feature is trying to lift into Central IL, and later today as the WAA kicks in...boundary should move into the state, leaving much of the forecast area in a warm sector of sorts. Cyclonic flow and plenty of moisture in the boundary layer however, has resulted in some low ceilings in the wake of last nights precip. Clouds may linger a little longer this morning, making the diurnal swing and resulting maxes a little problematic in the short term. Overall, a deep and broad trough dominating the western two-thirds of the CONUS will keep that southwesterly flow pushing warmer air into the region. Keeping the highs in the lower 80s, slowing the warm up just a bit. Today should provide a quick respite from the rain as soon as the showers move out of the eastern portion of the state...but another round will move in tonight as that low over the Plains lifts into the Great Lakes region, dragging a boundary with showers/thunder through the region. Expected in the NW near sunset, the progression of the showers and precip looks to weaken rather quickly as it passes southeast of Interstate 55. Severe threat is very conditional to the timing and available instability later tonight. .LONG TERM...(Thursday through Tuesday) ISSUED AT 340 AM CDT Wed May 22 2019 Another wave dives into the western trough at 500mb, kicking the low at the center of the country to the NE. Deep southwesterly flow continues, and temperatures through the end of the week remain above normal. Forecast has spotty pops through the end of the week as the models struggle with the resolution of an active weather pattern. The next system of significance shows up as the second low ejects out of the SW and drags a front through the region. Pops return going into the weekend Fri night/Sunday with a stormy end to the week. Forecast temperatures over the weekend dependent on a frontal boundary drifting over the region, highly influenced by the convection/precip outflows that develop on the mesoscale. A series of waves rippling along that boundary/baroclinic zone will result in continued rain chances into the first of next week. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Thursday morning) Issued at 611 AM CDT Wed May 22 2019 Early morning satellite imagery shows showers shifting east of the terminals while IFR ceilings are finally lifting north.
