* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 13.0 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 16.0 feet by Sunday 
  afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage late Monday 
  morning.
* At 17.0 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand into fields...
  woodlands and pastures near the river. The water level is very 
  close to Ward Road on the right bank. Flood waters will be 
  approaching irrigation systems and they may need to be moved to 
  higher ground.
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 16.4 feet on Jan 12 2014.

* At 3 AM Saturday the stage was 30.6 feet...and falling.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by late Monday
  morning.
* At 30.0 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the 
  woodlands and pasture upstream and downstream from the gage near 
  the Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. Fishing Creek backs up and a 
  few buildings along the creek will be flooded. Also Tanyard Branch 
  Stream between East Thomas and East Charleston Streets in 
  Milledgeville will flood. Sinclair Dam will likely have four to 
  five gates open to reach this height.

* At 23.0 feet...Moderate flooding continues. Portions of the Old 
  Balls Ferry Road leading to the boat ramp becomes flooded with a 
  foot of water or more.  The entire dirt parking lot near the boat 
  ramp is under three to five feet of water. Extensive flooding of 
  the woodlands near the river continues.

  the Georgia Highway 100 bridge will be under two feet of water.

* The river will continue rising to near 8.2 feet by this evening. 
  The river will fall below flood stage Sunday morning.
* At 8.0 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the 
  woodlands and fields along the creek from near Cumming in south 
  Forsyth County to Alpharetta and Roswell in north Fulton County. 
  Additional portions of The Big Creek Greenway have minor flooding 
  with 1 to 2 feet of water. Most of the walking and biking paths 
  will be closed...especially upstream and downstream from the gage 
  on Kimball Bridge Road and near Rock Mill Park. Portions of the 
  YMCA Campground off Preston Ridge Road will flood.

  deep. The water level reaches the top of the boat ramp behind the 
  Columbus Convention and Trade Center. The Phenix City Amphitheater 
  in Alabama will be flooded up to two feet deep. Portions of the 
  River Walk in Phenix City will begin to flood.

  a gage located by a dirt boat ramp on the west side of Avant Mine 
  off Adams Road in Washington County. The water level will begin to 
  surround the elevated USGS gage house.

continues for
  The Middle Oconee River near Arcade.
* Until this evening.
* At 9 AM Saturday the stage was 17.1 feet...and falling.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* The river will continue to fall to below flood stage by this 
  afternoon.
* At 18 feet...Minor flooding continues in the woodlands...fields 
  and pasture upstream and downstream from the gage at Georgia 
  Highway 82. A few dirt access roads and a residential yard just 
  downstream will be flooded with up to two feet of water.

.UPDATE...

Line of convection quickly progressed east of the area this
evening leaving some isolated pea sized hail reports in its wake.
Wrap around moisture now affecting mainly the far northern tier
with light rain returns. Temperatures cooling rapidly behind the
front with some upper 30s already noted around Brasstown Bald.
Soundings in those areas do point to a mix being possible tonight
but saturation falls at -10C level quickly and therefore will
leave out mention in grids for now.

Otherwise, grids on track with clearing trend in store for
Saturday. No changes planned.

SHORT TERM /Tonight through Saturday Night/...
While the post-dry slot portion and sfc occluded front is exiting
the CWA to the east and north, some breaks in the wrap-around
stratocu may tease momentary glimpses of the thing we call the
sun for this afternoon. While the center of the upper cutoff low
and associated lingering low level moisture continues to push
across the MS/TN Valleys, cloud cover is unfortunately expected to
fill back in for this evening into overnight though NW flow
behind this system will allow for a much more optimistic clearing
trend for the weekend. In the mean time, the steepening lapse
rates and continued moisture near the main cold core of the low
will actually allow for some continued shower and isolated thunder
development in parts of north GA. There may even be a few shallow
cells that generate graupel or small hail. Late tonight the last
of the precip should diminish in the far northeast. Keeping it all
showers late given thermal profile trend but could not rule out a
few flurries or snow grains right at the tail end though sfc
temps stay above freezing in the mountains.

Temps mainly in the mid 50s to low 60s for Saturday with clearing
skies and enhanced NW gradient winds, then even better Sunday
with temps moderating into the mid to upper 60s as the flow
becomes more zonal.

LONG TERM /Sunday through Friday/...
No major forecast concerns during the long term period. 12Z model
guidance in relatively strong agreement with broad upper ridging
over the eastern CONUS transitioning to southwest flow and a broad
upper trough over the northern/central CONUS latitudes on Monday,
followed by strong NW flow aloft and subsidence Tues thru Thurs.
There could be some light rain Monday night associated with warm
advection ahead of front but other than that, the entire forecast
will be dry.

Both max and min temperatures through Wednesday will be 10 to 15
degrees above normal, possibly higher before the next front arrives
on Tues night or Wednesday. Even after that, temps will remain
around 5 degrees above normal.

PREV LONG TERM DISCUSSION... /Issued 332 AM EST Fri Jan 4 2019/

The long term begins with a ridge of high pressure building over the
central U.S. This will bring dry and more stable air into the CWA
for a few days. Another weak but fast moving system will move across
the CWA late Monday and Monday night. The system will weaken as it
moves across the CWA, however it will have enough moisture for
another chance of showers. After Monday night, a broad trough will
dominate the eastern half of the nation with the axis just off the
east coast. This puts the CWA in a west northwest flow bringing dry
and stable conditions for the remainder of the long term.
Temperatures will be at or just above normal through the long term.

00Z UPDATE...

Winds remain elevated at terminals this evening and will continue
to carry low end gusts into the overnight period and right on
through Sat for ATL. Some clearing initially behind the front but
MVFR should move in by 03Z and IFR likely thereafter for a brief
period. A much needed return to VFR conditions anticipated for Sat
morning and persisting through the remainder of the TAF period.
