* Impact...At 9.0 feet...Backwater flooding from the Taunton River 
  will cause flooding of lower Purchade Brook in Middleboro.  This 
  will cause Woloski Park to become impassable by most vehicles for 
  an extended period of time.  Beware of the dangers of crossing 
  flooded roadways. The water may be deeper than you think.  
  Floodwaters have the ability to damage roadways. Heed the advice of
  local officials, and evacuate if asked to do so.

.SYNOPSIS...
Strengthening low pressure over New Brunswick will move off to
the northeast overnight. Winds in our area have shifted out of
the west and northwest, and they are transporting colder and
drier air into Southern New England. With temperatures cooling
below freezing overnight, expect any wet surfaces to freeze,
creating slippery spots on area roads and walkways. Dry and
cold conditions prevail Friday and Saturday, then not quite as
cold Sunday. Next week starts off dry and seasonably cold on
Monday, but will turn unsettled Monday night into Tuesday night
with a wintry mix that could briefly change to rain across
portions of the region before changing back to snow late next
week as some of the coldest air of the season may move in.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY MORNING/...

Rainfall of 1 to 3 inches has tapered off. The 10 PM surface map
shows low pressure moving off through New Brunswick. Strongest
pressure rises were over CT and RI, with rates of 2-3 mb per
hour. This should keep the pressure gradient tight for a few
hours, with windy conditions lingering in Ern Mass and RI much
of the night, and diminishing over Wrn/Central MA and Nrn CT
late tonight.

Satellite shows breaks over central and Eastern Mass, but clouds
moving into Western MA/CT from NY state. These clouds will
linger during the middle of the night, but then diminish as the
airmass dries out.

Temperatures in the mid 30s west and mid 40s east. These
temperatures will cool overnight with most areas reaching the
20s by morning. With temperatures below freezing, expect any
untreated surfaces that remain wet to freeze into icy surfaces.

Stream levels at 10 PM continued to show a few small streams in
W/C Mass and Nrn CT either rising or cresting. Expect all
streams to crest and then fall overnight. Areal flood warning
continues in this area and may be extended one more time if
levels are not falling enough by 12:30 AM. River flood
warnings continue with some rivers remaining above flood stage
through Friday night.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Friday...

Cyclonic flow with embedded short wave moving across the area
will induce diurnal clouds and possibly scattered afternoon
flurries/snow showers. Highest chance for this will be over
northwest MA where some lake effect moisture and instability
(925-700 mb) traverse this region via WSW trajectory. Seasonably
cold with highs in the 30s and only a modest WSW wind at 10-20
mph.

Friday night...

Progressively colder as heights continue to lower. High pressure
builds into the Mid Atlc with light pres gradient over New
England. So radiational cooling will result in lows in the teens
with single digits in northwest MA.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Highlights ...

* High pressure bring cold, dry conditions Saturday with
  seasonable temperatures Sunday
* May see snow and/or a wintry mix Monday night into Tuesday
  night
* Arctic front may bring coldest temperatures of the season
  late next week

Overview...

Overall North American pattern remains in a broad trough across
the north central U.S. as polar vortex remains in central
Canada this weekend into early next week. Most of the 12Z
models in pretty good agreement in bringing a piece of the
polar vortex into N central U.S. then, as the vortex spins back
to the NE across Quebec around the middle to end of next week,
could see the coldest air of the season work eastward around the
base of the vortex.

Some question as to whether a second low and arctic front
brings some light snow across the region late Monday into
Tuesday night. However, milder air may work northward into
mainly central and eastern areas which could allow for precip to
change to rain, depending upon how deep the mid level trough
digs to the W on Tuesday. Then, as the colder air starts to
return, could see a wintry mix before going back to snow
Tuesday night. Will continue to monitor model runs for progress
of these features.

Details...

Saturday...

Cold air continues to filter across the region during Saturday
as high pressure builds across. H85 temps fall as low as -10C
to -17C early Saturday with only modest rises during the day as
the high shifts E. Expect high temps running from 20-25 across
the higher terrain, ranging to the lower-mid 30s along the
immediate coast.

Clouds will increase Sat night with light winds in place as a
weak warm front tries to push NE out of NY/PA after midnight.

Sunday and Monday...

Somewhat milder air pushes across the region Sunday as weak low
pres moves E-NE across N NY into southern Quebec later Sunday
and Sunday night. Limited moisture with this system, but could
see a few snow showers across NE and central Mass to N central
CT as a weak warm front pushes through. Temps should top off
near seasonal levels, from the lower-mid 30s inland to the lower
40s across the coastal plain.

With most of the energy and moisture closer to the passing low,
mainly across northern New England, a cold front should push
across around or after midnight Sunday night. However, expect
strongest cold air advection to remain N of the region though
some cold air does work in during Monday. Highs will range from
the 20s across the higher inland terrain to the mid-upper 30s
along the coast.

Monday night through Tuesday night...

As the polar vortex rotates S into the N central U.S., will see
low pressure develop across the Ohio valley and push NE across
the Great Lakes Tue. Should see moisture ahead of this low head
E, with temps rising on Tuesday to the 30s to lower 40s. Will
see S-SE winds pick up as well as low level jet approaches with
gusts up to 20-25 kt mainly along the coast.

Have likely POPs moving from W-E during Tue as low level
moisture increases, with light snow moving in late Monday night
and continuing through Tue. With slowly rising temps, should see
a mix with or change to rain as temps rise on Tuesday.

Colder air begins to filter eastward Tuesday night as a cold
front approaches. QPF amounts could reach 0.4 to 0.5 inches
across the interior. Some models are trying to develop another
low along the front which, depending upon the timing of this
low and frontal passage, could bring a wintry mix in before
changing back over to snow. Have left this mix out for now, but
will continue to watch this potential closely.

Wednesday and Thursday...

The low deepens rapidly as it rotates NE into Quebec on Wed,
though timing and track of individual model members is in
question. At this point, should see conditions improve. However,
coldest air of the season looks to wrap around the base of this
low. Core of H85 temps across N central U.S. drops to -40C to -43C,
but will not be nearly as low across the region. However, H85 temps
drop to -18C to -24C Wed night, then down to -23C to -25C during
Thu across the region. Could see highs on Thu only in the teens
across most areas, ranging to 20-25 along the coast. Gusty W
winds may also be in place, so could see very low wind chill
readings. May see some local snow showers across the islands
during Thu as well.

.AVIATION /03Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Forecaster Confidence Levels...

Low - less than 30 percent.
Moderate - 30 to 60 percent.
High - greater than 60 percent.

Short Term /through Friday Night/...Moderate to high confidence.

Overnight...

MVFR cigs linger over Cape Cod and Islands, and are moving into
the CT Valley and Central Hills. VFR farther east. As the air
dries overnight, expect conditions to improve to VFR all areas
overnight. W-NW winds gusting to 30 kt will slowly diminish with
gusts to 20 kt after 2 AM.

Friday...

VFR with W-SW winds 10-20 kt. In the afternoon, VFR CIGS across
northern MA especially northwest MA with scattered snow showers
possible. Mainly dry elsewhere.

Friday night...

VFR. Dry weather and W winds 15-25 kt.

KBOS Terminal...

LLWS until about 00z then low level jet moves offshore. Fine
line of heavy showers and strong winds 20z-22z then improving
thereafter with wind shift to the west and dry weather.

KBDL Terminal...

Leftover LLWS until about 23z then improving. Leftover MVFR
conditions in light rain/patchy fog through 00Z then improving
to VFR. W-NW winds gusting to around 25 kt through 02Z-03Z then
diminishing.
