.SYNOPSIS...
Tropical Storm Michael will continue to weaken is it moves away from
the area through tonight. Gusty winds will persist into Friday
morning. Cool high pressure will then settle over the area, bringing
seasonably cooler and drier air into the region through the weekend.
Moisture will begin increasing early next week ahead of a
slow-moving cold front, increasing the chance of showers across the
area.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 255 PM EDT Thursday: The center of Tropical Storm Michael is
now pushing east across Central NC. Reports of downed trees and
flooding were fairly common across the hardest hit areas. Moderate
to occasionally heavy rain bands continue to wrap around the
backside of the system through the western NC Piedmont. This
activity will continue to wind down so that by this evening rainfall
will have largely ended across the FA except a few NW flow showers
hanging on near the TN border. Sfc high pressure building in to the
region will support continued gusty northwest winds across the NC
mtns, where gusts to 30 mph (ridgetops gusts of 40+ mph possible)
will persist for much of the night. Elsewhere winds will drop off
this evening. Drier and cooler air filtering into the region will
finally support near normal lows with temps falling into the 40s for
mtn valleys and foothills and 50-55 outside of the mountains. The
breezy northwest winds will largely prevent fog formation, but
cannot rule it out for wind sheltered areas.

Typical Fall day on tap for Friday with mostly sunny skies with
light northwest winds and highs in the 60s mtn valleys into the low
to mid 70s outside of the mountains.

.SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 210 PM Thu: Cool/dry surface high pressure will remain
dominant through much of the short term, with the center of the high
likely settling in the Mid-Atlantic by the end of the period.
However, cyclogenesis over the southern Great Plains will result in
developing southerly flow atop the cool, stable air over our area by
the end of the period, with resultant increases in low level
moisture cloud cover. Max temps will be roughly 5 degrees below
climo through the period, with min temps averaging right around
normal.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 220 pm Thu: The pattern will remain slowly progressive (at
best) across the Southeast during the medium range, with upper low
spinning over the Desert Southwest, and most of the short wave
activity remaining confined to the northeast Conus. Baroclinic zone
is expected to be stretched out from east Texas through the TN/OH
valleys and into the eastern Great Lakes at the start of the period,
and will only gradually ooze to the southeast through the first half
of the week, and probably not clearing our forecast area until
mid-week or so. Small shower chances will mainly be confined to the
mtns early in the week, gradually expanding into the foothills and
Piedmont in the Tue/Wed time frame, with a pop-less forecast not
advertised until Wed evening. Temps are expected to warm to near, or
even slightly above climo ahead of the front early next week, before
falling to below climo by the end of next week.

.AVIATION /19Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Flight conds expected to continue to improve
as Tropical Storm Micheal moves ENE thru NC. Associated strong WS
will diminish later this afternoon across KCLT and KHKY. Breezy NW
winds will gradually diminish this evening into tonight with KAVL
possibly remaining breezy until near sunrise. There is a 30 percent
chance of MVFR BR along foothill terminals (KGSP, KGMU, KHKY) late
tonight. VFR conds expected Friday with light NW winds.

Outlook: Fair conditions will continue into this weekend with shower
chances increasing late Sunday across the mtns and everywhere early
next week as a frontal system pushes into the region.
