...The flood warning continues for the following rivers in Nevada...

Minor flooding will continue in the lower portions of the Truckee
River into the early morning hours. River flooding has ended at
Carson City, although flooding in low lying areas will continue and
small streams will remain high due to recent heavy rain. On the
Middle Fork Feather River, the flooding is ending near Portola, but
minor flooding remains possible downstream from Clio to Sloat. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Never drive through flooded areas as rushing water can easily sweep a
car away...

The next forecast update for these locations will be issued at about
9 am Wednesday.

* Impact...Very minor flooding will affect areas below Vista to
  Derby Dam.

  stage from Dayton to Fort Churchill.
* Impact...Minor low land flooding is likely just east of Carson
  City. Moderate to major flooding will continued downstream from
  Dayton to Fort Churchill through Wednesday afternoon.

.UPDATE...

Moderate to heavy rain continues for areas east of the Sierra
below 5500 feet while snow is falling above 5500 feet. In the
Sierra moderate to heavy snow continues while northeast California
and far northwest Nevada are seeing a bit of a break. There is a
back edge to the heaviest precipitation tonight...but with streams
still running high and soils saturated...the moderate to heavy
rain is likely to cause continued or increased flooding of low
lying areas near the streams and ponding in poor drainage areas.

The good news is that the winds have backed off. We will let the
High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories expire this evening. Gusty
winds will continue but they should be below advisory and warning
criteria for the remainder of the night.

Blizzard conditions continue in the Sierra...but there should be a
lessening of snow rates later tonight. 20

UPDATE...

Very strong winds are occurring on Highway 95 near Walker Lake
this evening. The winds have a downslope component and are being
channeled through a canyon near the community of Walker Lake.
Winds may gust over 100 mph at times. Elsewhere in the Mineral
County region the winds should gust no more than 40-45 mph.

Snow continues in the Sierra and northeast California as snow
levels hover around 5500-6000 feet. To the east a mix of rain and
snow is spilling into far western Nevada with the heaviest
precipitation now from Washoe Valley north to Pyramid Lake. Small
stream and creeks below 6500 feet are still susceptible to
flooding and a Flood Advisory remains in effect from Douglas
County north to northern Washoe County. River flood warnings
remain in effect for the Carson River and the Middle Fork Feather
River. The worst flooding will continue below Carson City through
Dayton and move to near Fort Churchill late tonight.

If rain fall continues and snow levels did not fall after midnight
we have need to issue Flood Warnings again for parts of the
Truckee Meadows as Steamboat Creek rises. 20

SYNOPSIS...
A powerful Pacific storm fueled by an atmospheric river will
continue to affect Northeast California and Western Nevada through
Wednesday. Blizzard conditions will continue in the Sierra with
periods of rain and snow across the lower elevations. Strong winds
with rain and snow will continue across western Nevada.
Additional precipitation on Thursday could bring snow down to the
Western Nevada valley floors.

SHORT TERM...

* Blizzard Conditions in the Sierra. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRAVEL!
* Periods of rain/snow and gusty winds for western Nevada.

.Blizzard in the Sierra...
Blizzard conditions ongoing in the Sierra with many roads closed
due to zero visibility, accidents from futile attempts at travel
and/or avalanche control. Conditions will not be improving
tonight. Bottom line, stay off the roads until after the storm
ends. Snow intensity and winds will decrease in the Sierra as the
atmospheric river dissipates by early Wednesday morning, but
conditions will remain unfavorable for travel and outdoor
activities. Snow may briefly end Wednesday night before the next
system arrives Thursday morning.

.Across western Nevada...
As the AR surges inland this evening, rain and snow will spread
across western Nevada with snow levels lowering from 6000 feet to
5000 feet. Could see some light accumulations on valley floors
around 5000 feet. Have greater confidence in 2-4 inches of wet
snow for locations near and above 5500 feet, including Virginia
City and the foothills along the west side of Reno-Carson and
along Foothill Road in Douglas County. Strong winds will decrease
as well this evening. So far gusts have remained in the 40-55 mph
with a few gusts closer to 60 mph.

.Thursday System...
This one looks more like a slider system in today's simulations,
with a cold unstable core moving out of the north Pacific. There
is quite a bit of moisture wrapping into the system, which may
develop into a rather large area of precipitation over western
Nevada. With snow levels forecast to be at 4000-4500 or lower,
there could be several inches of snow across western Nevada. In
the Sierra this system could drop another foot of snow. Brong

Long Term...Friday through Monday...

Not much change in the long term forecast. By Friday low pressure
will be moving out of the area with high pressure building in from
the west. There could be a few lingering showers in Mono/Mineral
counties as the low pressure has trended slightly slower in leaving
the region.

Friday through about Tuesday we will see a break in the
precipitation. Winds will be generally light out of the east with
moderate winds along the Sierra ridges at times as an easterly
gradient sets up. Temperatures inversions are expected to form as
warmer air moves in aloft with lighter east winds at that
surface.

Strong low pressure anomaly in the Gulf of Alaska will strengthen
the East Asian Jet allowing it to push back into California. This
will bring the storm track back into the Sierra and western Nevada.
Early indications are that precipitation could move back into the
region around next Tuesday. Current projects bring the precipitation
in while we are on the warm side of the jet with the jet stream
eventually strengthening into southern California potentially
allowing colder air to filter in later in the week. -Zach

Blizzard in the Sierra with near zero visibility through 12Z
Wednesday and some improvement after, but still IFR in -SN. Several
feet of snow accumulation probable on runways, especially KTRK/KTVL
through Thursday morning. Very high confidence in +SN BLSN.

For KRNO/KCXP, gusty winds with LLWS and mtn wave turbulence to
continue through 18Z Wednesday. VFR conditions with occasional
MVFR CIGS in -RA until 00Z today then continuous MVFR thru 12Z in
RA. Improving conditions thereafter with winds lessening for Wed
night.

06-18Z Thursday, more widespread lighter snow is possible for all
locations near and south of I-80 with a few inches possible.
