Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Nashville TN 122 AM CST Tue Nov 7 2017 .UPDATE... FOR MORNING DISCUSSION. && .DISCUSSION... The atmosphere has been over-performing with overnight rainfall, as compared with what was earlier forecast by the GFS, and the latest HRRR keeps a band of locally heavy rainfall in place over a large swath of the Mid-State through 13z or 14z, centered along a a quasi-stationary front, extending from near Linden and Centerville to near Celina. Local rainfall amounts in a narrow swath, extending from near Dickson, over toward Brentwood, Smyrna and Smithville, between 04z and 07z, have been between two and four inches. Rain gauge and doppler estimates appear to be in very close correlation, and similar heavy rainfall could occur in other localized swaths for the remainder of the night and early morning hours. Have updated zfp and HWO to mention locally heavy rainfall possible in counties in vicinity of surface trough axis through the overnight and early morning hours, and have updated QPF amounts through 18z today to trend closer to the heavier HRRR forecast amounts. Also, latest short-term models show that northwest and north- central areas, where surface flow remains out of a northerly direction today, probably won't get out of the middle 50s. Meanwhile, expect highs near the Alabama border, south of our surface boundary, to be in the lower 70s. && .AVIATION... 06Z TAF DISCUSSION. As of 05Z a few thunderstorms are training across the I-40 corridor of middle TN. Earlier there was some strong gusty winds but now the main threat is heavy rainfall through 10Z or so. All TAF sites are IFR to LIFR and will stay that way for the overnight hours. Even after the rain tappers off /around 12Z or so/ to -DZ ceilings will still be IFR. Winds are in the process to turning northerly and expect gusty north winds of 15KTs or so around 22Z and then becoming sustained at 7-10KTs after sunset.
