DISCUSSION...
Upper ridging is over the southcentral and southwest parts of the
country with northwest flow over the CWA. A dryline will be across
the eastern Permian Basin and Lower Trans Pecos this afternoon. Good
CAPE and shear values will be present along with very steep mid-
level lapse rates so any storms that develop along or to the east of
the dryline will have the potential to become severe. Large hail and
damaging winds will be the main potential hazards with any storms
that develop. Westerly winds to the west of the dryline will aid in
temperatures heating up across the area this afternoon. Temperatures
around 105 degrees will be widespread with areas around the Pecos
and Rio Grande Rivers climbing to 110 to 115 degrees. A Heat
Advisory is in effect for much of West Texas and southeast New
Mexico this afternoon into early this evening.
Temperatures are expected to heat up even more across portions of
the area on Saturday as 850 mb temperatures increase. The record
high temperature for Midland is likely to either be met or
surpassed with a high of 108 degrees expected. A Heat Advisory
will likely be issued for tomorrow for much of the area as well. A
slight cool off is expected for Sunday as a cold front moves into
the area beginning Sunday morning. This will result in
temperatures cooling into the 90s across the northern Permian
Basin and southeast New Mexico. Temperatures are expected to be a
little cooler on Monday with many places experiencing highs in the
90s as the surface high moves closer to the area. Temperatures
will warm back up into the triple digits for many places on
Tuesday with an upper ridge dominating the southwest part of the
country. This warming trend will continue into Wednesday and
Thursday. Expect conditions to be mostly dry next week.
