afternoon and will continue to rise to near 29.0 feet early
Wednesday morning.
* Impact...At 29.0 feet...Farmland in southern Rankin County begins to
flood and water begins to affect home access near the river in the
Byram area.
* Impact...At 28.0 feet...Minor flooding of lowland near the river is
occurring. Water begins to back up into several creeks and streams
in the Jackson area.
* Impact...At 26.0 feet...Roads near the river in Lefleurs Bluff State
Park begin to flood.

Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Jackson MS 1104 AM CDT Sat Jun 24 2017 .UPDATE... Updated for morning discussion. && .DISCUSSION... Latest satellite imagery shows the remnant outflow boundary along the coast while more stable air resides over all of the ArkLaMiss region with the cold front moving into north-central Mississippi. Hi-res guidance didn't really handle well how far south this complex of storms would make it overnight, especially not all the way to the coast. Due to this, the environment is more washed out than the global models are showing and more northerly flow prevails areawide. Satellite derived & local sounding PWs show less than an inch and a half just to our north (north of the cold front) to around 2 to 2.25 inches at JAN & LIX south of the front. Modifying the soundings this morning shows I-20 corridor can destabilize some, with better moisture and destabilization further south towards the Gulf Coast. Overall the CAM guidance (HRRR, ARW & NMM) are bullish to keep most convection confined south of I-20 and not as widespread as the global models. Due to this, lowered rain chances significantly in the north to pretty much cut out rain chances while trending toward isolated showers & storms in the I-20 corridor with more scattered storms in the Highway 84 corridor. Due to widespread destabilization and washed out environment, expect these showers & storms to take some time to redevelop, mainly in the mid afternoon or so. Cleaned out the flash flood watch to only include the Pine Belt of Marion, Lamar and Forrest Counties through 7PM. Any areas along and south of the Highway 84 corridor could get a quick 1 to 2 inches. Due to high moisture south of the front and recently saturated soils, it won't take much to cause some flash flooding issues. Updated the HWO/graphics to account for these changes. Rest of the updates are out. /DC/ Prior discussion below: Today through Tonight: Latest satellite imagery showed a broad upper trough axis over the Central CONUS. On the surface a frontal boundary was observed near the northwest delta region. Area radars showed that the outflow boundary of convection has flatted out across our southeastern counties. For today the front will push across most of the region by this evening. CAM guidance shows convection with locally heavy rainfall across out southern counties for mainly this afternoon. Pwats will be near and 2 inches. The best chance for locally heavy rainfall will be along and ahead of the front where the best moisture convergence will occur. Coordinated with my southern neighboring offices for a Flash Flood Watch which will be effective until 00z. Will let the day shift extend it into the evening should the need arise. WPC has a slight risk of excessive rainfall for my southern counties for today. Will be looking at a quick 2 to 4 inches heavy rainfall amounts in some of the stronger storms for mainly this afternoon at the time of peak heating. Models shows light Corfidi vectors across my southern counties which will lead to some training of cells along with some possible backbuilding. Highs today will be in the lower to middle 80s. For tonight look the activity to continue. Expect most of the locally heavier rains to push south of the region during the night. This will occur the the front pushes south of the region. Lows for tonight will be from the middle 60s north to the lower 70s south./17/ Sunday through Friday: Starting out the new week, the upper-air pattern will feature a broad trough over the eastern CONUS and ridging over the Intermountain West early in the week. A strong surface high (~1025 mb) will filter out of the north and slide across the country, keeping temperatures on the cooler side of normal through about Wednesday. This should keep rain chances to a minimum for most of the area early in the week, although a few afternoon showers or thunderstorms cannot be ruled out across southern portions of the area. Then as the next upper trough slides over the central CONUS and southeasterly surface winds return to our region on the periphery of the Bermuda High, increasing humidity and temperatures will return to the ArkLaMiss region.
