Issued at 307 AM EDT Fri Jun 30 2017 Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to redevelop this afternoon into this evening as a cold front moves into the area. There is a low chance for locally heavy rainfall and isolated severe thunderstorms. Highs today will generally range between the upper 70s and mid 80s. Drier conditions are expected behind this front over the weekend with temperatures close to normal. && .SHORT TERM...(Today through Saturday) Issued at 307 AM EDT Fri Jun 30 2017 Line of non-severe convection tied to a convectively enhanced shortwave will exit northwest OH by daybreak leaving a mainly dry/mostly cloudy morning as some subsidence overspreads and associated low level outflow gets shunted off to the south. Chances for showers/storms will increase this afternoon as this low level front returns north and another convectively aided disturbance/MCV approaches in perturbed/cyclonic wsw flow aloft. The potential for 1000-1500 j/kg of MLCAPE and 20-30 knots of deep layer bulk shear does suggest an isolated severe risk (wind), with locally heavy rain the bigger concern given high moisture content (850 mb dewpoints 13- 14C). The main shortwave trough will translate east through the Upper/Mid MS Valleys and Great Lakes later tonight into Saturday with additional chances for showers/storms. However, lower coverage/chances by this time as deeper moisture exits east. Temperatures will be near normal today into Saturday. && .LONG TERM...(Saturday Night through Thursday) Issued at 307 AM EDT Fri Jun 30 2017 Height rises/drying will promote dry/seasonable conditions into Saturday night and Sunday. A shortwave tracking through the Northern Great Lakes is then progged to drop a weakening/stalling frontal boundary into the local area Sunday night into Monday. Little/if any upper level support and limited moisture return warrants nothing higher than a 20-30 type PoP during this time. Confidence lowers into the middle of next week as models drift a convectively enhanced upper wave east near remnant frontal zone. The result is periodic shower/storm chances locally Tuesday through Thursday. Any model solutions over the next few days should be taken with a grain of salt given the almost cut-off look to this feature. Otherwise, temperatures through the period should be near seasonal norms. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Saturday Morning) Issued at 624 AM EDT Fri Jun 30 2017 Festering composite outflow/stationary frontal zone from KDNV to KDAY will serve as the impetus for renewed convective development 18- 20Z given expected favorable destabilization into mid aftn. Expect this boundary will mix a few counties nwd from where its at currently however lackluster backing ahead of sw ejecting through the upper midwest this morning and weak boundary layer mixing will limit the nwd extent of this feature. Nonetheless expanding coverage of shra/tsra expected late aftn-early evening as additional influence of approaching cold front comes into play. Will add a bit more granularity with this fcst and focus on aftn potential. Otherwise shra/tsra along and ahead of the cold front will shift ewd through evening as weak low level post frontal cold advection follows.
