...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers
and creeks in Indiana...

.Widespread significant river flooding will continue in central
Indiana into the weekend and through May 11 in western and southern
Indiana. Major flooding will continue along the Patoka River in
southwest Indiana and is possible this weekend in Owen County.

Much of central and southern Indiana received 2 to slightly more than
4 inches of since Wednesday.  Rainfall totals topped 8 inches since
April 28 at a few sites in central Indiana and more than 14 inches in
select areas of southwest Indiana.

Flood crests for much of central, western and southwest Indiana and
southeast Illinois will be the highest since April 2013. Flood crests
will range from flood stage to 13 feet above flood stage and occur
from Sunday in central Indiana to May 11 in southwest Indiana.

River levels were rising in central and southern Indiana on Friday
afternoon.  Small streams in several areas have crested. Stream
levels ranged from near bankfull to more than 11 feet above flood
stage along the Wabash River in western Indiana.

Flooding will last through May 8 in central Indiana and through May
24 in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois. 

Flooding affected numerous roads, agricultural fields and a few
residential areas.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  problem is believed to have been corrected.  Seven floods since May
  1990 have reached this level.  Levees are monitored at this level.

  Bowman.  Extensive flooding in Dodge City.

  Bartholomew County on March 7 2011.   Double Y Saddle Club area 
  extensively flooded.  Water flowing over CR 950 N to Club.  CR 330W
  is flooded just south of its intersection with Ohio Ridge Rd.  CR 
  500N west of CR 250W is flooded blocking vehicular access to 
  residences near the river bank.  Lowell Public Access site is 
  completely flooded.  Water very near several residences and 
  seasonal homes along CR 330W and CR 325W.

* At 18.0 feet...Extensive flooding is in progress.  More than 50% of 
  the flood plain in Jackson County is underwater.  Flood waters near
  the east edge of Medora.  High water isolates wastewater treatment 
  plant at Seymour.  Many county roads that do not cross the river 
  begin to flood.  Many state and county roads are impassable by 
  water.  High water affects many rural residents...but only a few 
  evacuations are necessary.  Flood waters surround most river 
  cabins.

* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 13.1 feet by 
  early Thursday morning then begin falling.
* At 13.2 feet...During the July 2015 summer flood, water began to 
  overflow the road to the new Williams Bridge.  SR 450 closes in 
  several locations. Most local roads in the flood plain are 
  impassable at this level.  Huron-Williams Road flooded south of 
  Port Williams Road.  The summer flood crest of 13.2 feet came 3 
  weeks later in the summer season than the June 28, 1960 crest of 
  15.1 feet and is believed to be the latest for the summer season 
  since at least the late 1940s.

.Widespread significant river flooding will continue in central
Indiana into the weekend and through May 11 in western and southern
Indiana. Major flooding will continue along the Patoka River in
southwest Indiana and is possible this weekend in Owen County.

Much of central and southern Indiana received 2 to slightly more than
4 inches of since Wednesday.  Rainfall totals topped 8 inches since
April 28 at a few sites in central Indiana and more than 14 inches in
select areas of southwest Indiana.

Flood crests for much of central, western and southwest Indiana and
southeast Illinois will be the highest since April 2013. Flood crests
will range from flood stage to 13 feet above flood stage and occur
from Sunday in central Indiana to May 11 in southwest Indiana.

River levels were rising in central and southern Indiana on Friday
afternoon.  Small streams in several areas have crested. Stream
levels ranged from near bankfull to more than 11 feet above flood
stage along the Wabash River in western Indiana.

Flooding will last through May 8 in central Indiana and through May
24 in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois. 

Flooding affected numerous roads, agricultural fields and a few
residential areas.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  residences near the river bank.  Lowell Public Access site is 
  completely flooded.  Water very near several residences and

  plant at Seymour.  Many county roads that do not cross the river 
  begin to flood.  Many state and county roads are impassable by 
  water.  High water affects many rural residents...but only a few 
  evacuations are necessary.  Flood waters surround most river 
  cabins.

* At 13.2 feet...During the July 2015 summer flood, water began to 
  overflow the road to the new Williams Bridge.  SR 450 closes in 
  several locations. Most local roads in the flood plain are 
  impassable at this level.  Huron-Williams Road flooded south of 
  Port Williams Road.  The summer flood crest of 13.2 feet came 3 
  weeks later in the summer season than the June 28, 1960 crest of 
  15.1 feet and is believed to be the latest for the summer season 
  since at least the late 1940s.

.Widespread significant river flooding will continue in central
Indiana into the weekend and through May 11 in western and southern
Indiana.  Major flooding will continue along the Patoka River in
southwest Indiana and is possible this weekend in Owen County.

Much of central and southern Indiana received 2 to slightly more than
4 inches of rain since Wednesday.  Rainfall totals topped 8 inches
since April 28 at a few sites in central Indiana and more than 14
inches in select areas of southwest Indiana.

Flood crests for much of central, western and southwest Indiana and
southeast Illinois will be the highest since April 2013. Flood crests
will range from flood stage to 13 feet above flood stage and occur
from Sunday in central Indiana to May 11 in southwest Indiana.

River levels were rising at nearly all central and southern
Indiana locations Friday evening.  Small streams in several areas
have crested.  River levels ranged from near bankfull to more than
12 feet above flood stage along the Wabash River in western Indiana.

Flooding will last through May 8 in central Indiana and through May

  weeks later in the summer season than the June 28, 1960 crest of 
  15.1 feet and is believed to be the latest for the summer season

Issued at 341 PM EDT Fri May 5 2017

Widespread significant rainfall is slowly making its way out of
central Indiana as the upper low opens and pushes eastward. One
more upper wave will move through the area tonight into Saturday,
with showers expected. This rainfall will generally be light and
unlikely to significantly impact ongoing flooding.

Central Indiana will finally have a chance to dry out a bit
tomorrow night into Monday, but rain chances and perhaps some
thunderstorms will return to the area Monday night onward as an
unsettled pattern continues across the region.

.NEAR TERM /Tonight/...
Issued at 341 PM EDT Fri May 5 2017

Have canceled the flood watch in areas where significant rainfall
has ended. Will allow it to go through the original 7 PM
expiration over east central Indiana where the band of rainfall
continues. Flood warnings continue across the area.

As the upper low opens and pushes east, expect this rainfall to
continue to shift out of the area, and precipitation will end by
mid evening. Shower chances, however, will move in from the
northwest again after midnight as one more upper wave on the back
side of the trough drops into the area. This rain will be light
and while it may prolong high water slightly, it will likely not
worsen the ongoing flooding.

Consensus temperatures appeared reasonable with minor adjustments.
Most areas should settle somewhere in the upper 30s to around 40
late tonight.

.SHORT TERM /Saturday through Monday/...

The first weekend of May will start cold, blustery, and damp, with
a bit of recovery on Sunday. Expect showers, particularly early on
Saturday, with highs only making it into the mid 50s over most of
the area, and northwest winds gusting to 25 MPH. Precipitation
will end by Saturday evening.

The remaining forecast issue will be temperatures Saturday and
Sunday nights. Temperatures appear likely to drop into the mid 30s
across much of the area Saturday night and again Sunday night.
Winds will remain up a bit, which may prevent a widespread frost.
Will need to monitor this potential for possible headlines
depending on later guidance.

Lots of variability in the long term forecast with pattern
flipping between model runs. Now looks like the week could be wet
with a frontal system stalling out somewhere. Uncertainty high
enough to limit pops to chance category throughout. Right now
could have some thunder potential Tuesday night through Wednesday
night. Lows Monday night/Tuesday morning look cold in the mid 30s
NE to mid 40s SW, but after that temperatures should moderate to
more normal for this time of year.

.AVIATION /Discussion for the 05/18Z TAFs/...

MVFR conditions at IND/BMG will give way to VFR conditions again
within an hour or two of issuance time. VFR has already returned
to LAF/HUF.

Rain will be moving out of the sites for a time late this
afternoon and evening before additional showers move in late
tonight into Saturday. Ceilings may again become MVFR and even IFR
for a time, although this is more uncertain.

Winds will remain out of the north throughout the day and into the
early evening, becoming more northwesterly with time. Gusts this

This hazardous weather outlook is for central Indiana.

.DAY ONE...Tonight.

Outlook: A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect through 7 pm this evening
across the eastern third of Central Indiana. Meanwhile, there is a
Flood Warning through May 6, 1115 am EDT for all of Central Indiana.
Wind gusts to 40 mph combined with wet ground could result in downed
trees.

Hazards: Heavy rainfall will result in lingering flooding. Wind gusts
to 40 mph this evening.

Timing: Flooding through Tonight. Winds gusts through 6 pm.

Discussion: A strong low pressure system will move from the Tennessee
Valley to the eastern Great Lakes by Saturday morning. Shower
chances will decrease tonight from west to east. However, there
could still be heavy rain at times near and southeast of Anderson,
Indianapolis and Sullivan. This could result in renewed flooding.
Moderate flooding will occur along parts of central Indiana rivers.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Outlook: Moderate flooding will continue through next week over parts
of the lower Wabash and White rivers. Thunderstorms will be possible
Tuesday evening through Wednesday night, but severe storms are not
expected at this time.

Patchy frost will be possible over parts of central Indiana early
Sunday and Monday.

Discussion: A strong low pressure system will move from the Tennessee
Valley to the eastern Great Lakes by Saturday morning. Then, an upper
wave will drop down from the north and result in more showers
Saturday. After that, dry weather is expected Saturday night through
at least Monday afternoon. Then, rain chances will return over all
or parts of central Indiana ahead of an upper low.

Spotter activation is not anticipated but rainfall and flooding reports
would be helpful and appreciated.
