...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers in 
Indiana...

  Big Blue River...Big Raccoon Creek...Big Walnut Creek...Buck

  River...Fall Creek...Flatrock River...Mill Creek...Mississinewa 
  River...Muscatatuck River...South Fork Wildcat Creek...Sugar

  River...Wildcat Creek...Youngs Creek...



.Widespread significant flooding has begun across Indiana and will
continue over the next several days.  Two to four inches of rain
fell across Central Indiana from Wednesday night through Thursday
with another inch possible by Friday afternoon.  Some major flooding
may be possible across the southern portions of the White River.

Flood crests for much of central, western and southwest Indiana and
southeast Illinois will be the highest since April 2013. Flood crests
will range from flood stage to 13 feet above flood stage and occur
from Sunday in central Indiana to May 11 in southwest Indiana.

Stream levels ranged from near bankfull to more than
10 feet above flood stage along the Wabash River in western Indiana.

Flooding will last through the weekend in central Indiana and
through May 24 in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois. 



Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At 11.1 feet...On February 28, 2011 the first water rescues occurred
  at CR 200S just east of Pleasant View Rd and CR 1000E about 0.4 
  miles north of SR 32 when Zionsville was 11.1 feet and rising 
  steadily and Prairie Creek near Lebanon was at 14.8 feet.  These 
  locations are located upstream of Zionsville and may indicate 
  extensive flooding within a few hours in the Zionsville area.

* At 19.0 feet...Flooding becomes more serious in the Riverwood, 
  Clare, and Trails End areas.  Flooding of basements occurs with 
  water possibly extending to the first floor.  State Road 19 begins 
  to flood.  Many local roads in these areas are impassable and some 
  evacuations are necessary.

* At 25.0 feet...A flood has exceeded this level each year since 
  January 2004, 6 out of 7 years since May 2002 and 10 times since 
  May 1990.  Of these 10 recent floods, 7 of them have exceeded the 
  25.8 foot mark with the January 2005 flood the largest since 
  January 1937.  Prior to May 1990, one must go back to March 1964 
  for a flood above 25 feet and back to May 1961 for a flood over 26 
  feet.  The greatest known flood to strike the Petersburg area 
  occurred in March 1913.

  flooded.  In Warren County, CR 350 N at the Black Rock Preserve, 
  Independence Rd east of Buffalo Hill Rd and Williamsport Rd are 
  flooded with water at the edge of River Rd in the Williamsport 
  area.  In Fountain County water covers Williamsport Rd and is on 
  the eastern portion of CR 500 E just north of Riverside.

.Widespread significant river flooding will continue in central
Indiana into the weekend and through May 11 in western and southern
Indiana.  Major flooding will continue along the Patoka River in
southwest Indiana and is possible this weekend in Owen County.

Much of central and southern Indiana received 2 to slightly more than
4 inches of since Wednesday.  Rainfall totals topped 8 inches since
April 28 at a few sites in central Indiana and more than 14 inches in
select areas of southwest Indiana.

Flood crests for much of central, western and southwest Indiana and
southeast Illinois will be the highest since April 2013. Flood crests
will range from flood stage to 13 feet above flood stage and occur
from Sunday in central Indiana to May 11 in southwest Indiana.

River levels were rising in central and southern Indiana on Friday
afternoon.  Small streams in several areas have crested. Stream
levels ranged from near bankfull to more than 11 feet above flood
stage along the Wabash River in western Indiana.

Flooding will last through May 8 in central Indiana and through May
24 in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois. 

Flooding affected numerous roads, agricultural fields and a few
residential areas.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

.Widespread significant river flooding will continue in central
Indiana into the weekend and through May 11 in western and southern
Indiana. Major flooding will continue along the Patoka River in
southwest Indiana and is possible this weekend in Owen County.

Much of central and southern Indiana received 2 to slightly more than
4 inches of since Wednesday.  Rainfall totals topped 8 inches since
April 28 at a few sites in central Indiana and more than 14 inches in
select areas of southwest Indiana.

Flood crests for much of central, western and southwest Indiana and
southeast Illinois will be the highest since April 2013. Flood crests
will range from flood stage to 13 feet above flood stage and occur
from Sunday in central Indiana to May 11 in southwest Indiana.

River levels were rising in central and southern Indiana on Friday
afternoon.  Small streams in several areas have crested. Stream
levels ranged from near bankfull to more than 11 feet above flood
stage along the Wabash River in western Indiana.

Flooding will last through May 8 in central Indiana and through May
24 in southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois. 

Flooding affected numerous roads, agricultural fields and a few
residential areas.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

Issued at 326 PM EDT Thu May 4 2017

A slow moving upper low will maintain a very wet and chilly pattern
across central Indiana and the Ohio Valley through Friday.
Additional showers are possible Saturday with a quick moving clipper-
like system passing through the region. Dry weather will finally
return for the second half of the weekend with temperatures
recovering to near normal levels by the middle of next week. Rain
and thunderstorms chances will return by the middle of next week as
well.

.NEAR TERM /Rest of Tonight/...
Issued at 953 PM EDT Thu May 4 2017

.Update...Cancelled the flash flood watch along and west of a
Flora to Clinton line.  Showers have diminished over far western
sections and high Resolution model showers little more than a
tenth of an additional inch west of a Kokomo to Terre Haute line
through midday Friday.   Much of this area is in a flood warning
for on-going flooding through 11 AM Friday from heavy rains last
night and earlier today.

Light to moderate showers will continue elsewhere and pick up
towards morning as isentrophic lift increases and much of this
area will be in a trowel.  Only other change was to lower
temperatures a degree or two most areas overnight based on
recent observation trends.

Portion of Previous near term discussion follows...

The forecast focus through tonight is on continued potential for
moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall as a deepening upper low and
associated surface wave drift slowly through the Ohio Valley. The
thinning of rainfall coverage earlier this afternoon was largely due
to an eastward shift in the low level jet riding around the front of
the upper low. The arrival of deeper lift and forcing aloft however
ahead of the upper low was contributing to the activity surging
north into the region currently from western Kentucky and southern
Illinois. This essentially is the initial table setter for the
second round of persistent and at times heavy rainfall that will
impact the region through tonight. Isentropic lift will strengthen
over the area along with a renewed surge of low level moisture from
the southeast with Gulf and Atlantic origins. A well pronounced
trowal is set to align over the southeast half of the forecast area
by this evening and linger through the night before shifting east.
In addition...a highly amplified upper jet will pivot over the Ohio
Valley this evening and place central Indiana squarely within the
left front quad...enhancing lift and diffluence aloft.

All of these parameters support continued moderate to heavy rainfall
with 100 pops fully warranted through tonight. Think another 1-2
inches is certainly quite possible by daybreak Friday with the
potential axis for highest pops setting up a little further to the
south from the heaviest rains Wednesday night and earlier today.
This will only further exacerbate ongoing flooding through the
night. Flood watches and warnings will continue as a result over
all except far northwest sections.

.SHORT TERM /Friday through Sunday/...
Issued at 326 PM EDT Thu May 4 2017

Forecast challenges are actually few as model consensus maintains a
high confidence extended period of moderate to heavy rain impacting
the region through Friday followed by a quick moving system
Saturday.

The surface low will track slowly east across Ohio Friday with the
upper low trailing.  Both features will remain in close enough
proximity to maintain rainfall across much if not all of central
Indiana through much of the day with a slow drying trend from the
west into the afternoon. While the influence from the trowal will
diminish as it shifts east into Ohio...strong consensus on a back
side mid level deformation band becoming the primary driver in
maintaining showers and perhaps a steadier band of rainfall
transitioning ever so slowly east through the course of the day.
There still remains differences in how far west the band could get
before shifting east with the op GFS in particular suggesting band
driven precip may make it as far west as eastern Illinois.
Regardless of the spatial differences...the setup remains the same
with high pops warranted through midday Friday then gradually
shifting east through the rest of the afternoon.

While overall rainfall totals will be lighter on Friday than this
afternoon and tonight...felt it was wise to extend the flash flood
watch out through Friday evening to account for additional rain
Friday.  As the drier air begins to advect in from the west during
the afternoon...will likely be able to siphon western counties out
of the watch early.

The combination of subtle and brief ridging aloft combined with the
high pressure ridge centered over the central and southern Plains
will help to finally dry conditions out from the west. This will
help to finally kick showers east out of the forecast area Friday
evening as the surface low moves into the upper Ohio Valley. Likely
to even see clouds scatter Friday evening/night. However...an upper
trough diving south out of Canada on Friday will drop into the Great
Lakes Friday night before interacting then becoming absorbed into a
rejuvenated and strengthened upper low over the eastern Great Lakes
Saturday. In tandem with the trailing upper wave will be a clipper-
like feature at the surface that will simply serve to add insult to
injury. As it moves into the region early Saturday...clouds and rain
will return and at least across the east/northeast half of the
forecast area...presence of strong forcing aloft and the cold pool
will likely support weak instability and shallow but steep lapse
rates which should keep showers going for much of the day.

Skies will finally clear Saturday night as the broad upper low
shifts away further to the east and high pressure builds into the
region from the northwest.  Central Indiana will remain under cool
cyclonic flow aloft for the rest of the weekend but dry conditions
with mainly clear skies are expected Saturday night and Sunday which
will finally allow for some drying out. N/NW winds should also begin
to relax through the day Sunday as the cyclonic flow aloft is lost
and ridging approaches from the west.

Temps...well below normal temperatures are expected throughout most
of the period with only subtle recovery in daytime highs by Sunday.
Overall MAVMOS guidance matched up reasonably well for daytime highs
and was utilized.  Expect temps to remain in the 50s in most areas
all three days. Potential there on Friday for eastern counties to
not make it out of the 40s. A MOS blend looked reasonable for
overnight lows. Still see a threat for patchy frost early Sunday
morning over the northern half of the forecast area as temps fall as
low as the mid 30s.  With that being said...combination of winds
staying up and the very wet near surface layer will likely mitigate
more widespread frost accrual.

.LONG TERM /Sunday night through Thursday/...
Issued at 247 PM EDT Thu May 4 2017

Dry weather will be the rule to start the long term with upper
ridging building over the area. Could see some patchy frost develop
late Sunday night/early Monday morning with temperatures dropping
into the mid 30s. Chances for rain could return as early as Monday
night, but GFS and ECMWF are showing some decent differences in the
upper pattern and this does not lend confidence to going with high
pops or going completely dry so kept low chance pops of the
intialization. The GFS looks much wetter than the ECMWF through the
rest of the week but ensembles are still showing a lot of
variability so not confident to vary from a middle of the road
solution. Included some thunder for Tuesday afternoon and early
Tuesday night with this being consistent in the operational
solutions but then left it out given the already mentioned
differences. Temperatures appear near normal after early Monday
morning but this could be a result of blending the warmer GFS with
the cooler ECM, but at this point don't favor either solution enough
to vary.

.AVIATION /Discussion for 050300Z KIND TAF Update/...

Minor tweaks made to KIND TAF to better match current conditions.
No other changes are needed at this time.  Previous aviation
discussion follows...

IFR Ceilings with rain through midday Friday some areas but with
gradual improvement from the west after that.  Low pressure
over central Kentucky will bring rain as it tracks to the
northeast.

Rain...rain and more rain with plenty of ceiling and visibility
restrictions remains the big story. High confidence continues
in widespread IFR conditions through Friday morning as low
pressure currently over the lower Ohio Valley drifts slowly to the
northeast. NE winds gusting to 20-25kts periodically will add to the
misery through tonight.

KHUF and KLAF may begin to dry out by mid morning Friday as the
rain shield focuses more over the eastern 2/3 of Indiana with the
storm system moving into the upper Ohio Valley. Ceilings however
will remain at or below IFR levels through midday Friday before
improvements commence slowly thereafter as drier air begins to
advect in from the northwest. Winds will back to northerly by
Friday with sustained winds remaining near 15kts.

Discussion: A strong low pressure system will approach central
Indiana from the southwest. Rain may become heavy at times. This
could result in renewed flooding.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

Outlook: Rain, heavy at times, may result in rainfall totals
approaching 4 inches by Friday in some areas. This rain will renew
small stream and field flooding and exacerbate current high water
along large rivers into moderate levels of flooding. In addition,
scattered thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday/Tuesday night.

Patchy frost will be possible over parts of central Indiana both
early Sunday and Monday mornings.

Discussion: Strong low pressure system will move into the Ohio
Valley Friday providing another long duration heavy rain event for
Indiana and thunderstorms late in the period. Dry weather is
expected to return with high pressure for the second half of the
weekend into early next week.
