UPDATE...
Have made minor adjustments to POPs for early this afternoon and
raise them slightly overall for this afternoon. Still keeping in
the chance category. No other changes planned.

PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 356 AM EDT MON JUL 18 2016/

SHORT TERM /Today through Tuesday/...
Short term models in good agreement with overall pattern.  The upper
low near New Orleans will sink southward into the GOMEX, meanwhile
upper level ridging will hold just off east coast.  Several impulses
will move through the upper flow across the Tennessee Valley
overnight and into Friday.  These impulses will interact with a weak
surface boundary setting up over northeast GA.  Convection will be
isolated again today, similar to yesterday and have kept POPs in
slight chance categories this afternoon and evening.  With surface
front acting as a focus, showers and thunderstorm probabilities will
increase to likely across north GA especially during the afternoon
tomorrow. Models showing good instabilities across the area and SPC
has a Marginal Risk. Isolated cells could become strong to severe.
Guidance temperatures in line and see no reason to deviate.
Temperatures will continue above normal for this time of year.

LONG TERM /Tuesday Night through Sunday/...
Large upper high centered over the Arklatex region still expected
to be cornerstone of pattern during the long term period based on
latest med range guidance. Ridging to extend well into Georgia
but could break down along the periphery of ridge Friday and
Saturday which could translate into more widespread coverage of
storms or perhaps even a complex of storms. Typically we would
need that eastern periphery of ridge to collapse further west for
that to occur. Otherwise not much hope for any front or pattern
with widespread precip. Just the typical isolated diurnal
convection each afternoon and evening. Temps will remain at or
slightly above normal through the period.

00Z EC and GFS runs continue to indicate no tropical activity
expected in the Atlantic basin through the period. Any eastern
Pacific tropical systems are not expected to interact with the
midlatitudes or impact the region in any way.

18Z Update...
Convection continues to increase in coverage...mainly across north
and northeast GA. This area will shift southward through the
afternoon dissipating after sunset. Scattered AC will be
intermittent through tonight ahead of the weak front that will
move into the forecast area Tuesday. Expect coverage of convection
Tuesday at or a little greater than today...mainly in the
afternoon.
