Warning for the following creek in Georgia...

  Big Creek near Cumming affecting Forsyth County

  Big Creek near Alpharetta affecting Forsyth and Fulton Counties

.Recent heavy rainfall has caused significant runoff into streams and
rivers which will cause flooding in some areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.

The latest stage data was furnished in cooperation with the United 
States Geological Survey.

* Flood Warning for 
  The Big Creek near Cumming.
* From this evening until Thursday afternoon.
* At 800 PM Wednesday the stage was 5.7 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 6 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage tonight and continue to rise 
  to near 6.5 feet by early Thursday. The creek will fall below flood 
  stage by late Thursday morning.
* At 7 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand into the natural 
  flood plain of the creek upstream and downstream from the gage at 
  Atlanta Highway or Georgia Highway 9. Large portions of the 
  sidewalk and boardwalk of the Big Creek Greenway will be flooded. 
  The areas under the Georgia 400 Highway and McFarland Road will be 
  covered with around two feet of water. A portion of the sidewalk 
  under Majors Road will be covered with around 3 feet of water.

  The Big Creek near Alpharetta.
* From this evening until Sunday afternoon.
* At 800 PM Wednesday the stage was 6.9 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage tonight and continue to rise 
  to near 9 feet by Thursday morning. The creek will fall below 
  flood stage by late Sunday morning.
* At 9 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek from near 
  Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale 
  Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia begin to
  flood. The Big Creek Greenway experiences significant flooding up 
  to 3 feet deep...which results in closure of most of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Hill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a foot of water.

* The river will continue rising to near 32.9 feet by this morning. 
  The river will fall below flood stage tomorrow late morning.
* At 32 feet...Moderate flooding begins and expands further into 
  the woodlands and pastures along the river. Fishing Creek continues
  to back up and spread further into woodland areas and covers some 
  roads in low lying areas. Tanyard Branch Stream continues to flood.
  Sinclair Dam will likely have five gates open to reach this height.

  a gage located by a dirt boat ramp on the west side of Avant Mine 
  off Adams Road in Washington County. The water level will begin to

  morning then begin falling.
* At 23 feet...Moderate flooding continues. Portions of the Old 
  Balls Ferry Road leading to the boat ramp becomes flooded with a 
  foot of water or more.  The entire dirt parking lot near the boat 
  ramp is under three to five feet of water. Extensive flooding of 
  the woodlands near the river continues.

* At 3 AM Thursday the stage was 14.7 feet...and 
  rising.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 21 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by tomorrow afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 25.8 feet by early Monday morning.
* At 25.5 feet...Significant flooding continues in the woodlands and 
  agricutural areas upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. 
  Highway 80. The flood waters will be around two feet deep on Rex 
  Miller Road...downstream left bank of the Highway 80 bridge and Old
  River Lane...upstream and left bank from the bridge. Some of the 
  homes on these roads will begin to experience flooding. Also a few 
  homes begin to flood on River Ridge Road...downstream and right 
  bank from the U.S. Highway 80 bridge.

* The river will continue rising to near 22.8 feet by this evening. 
  The river will fall below flood stage Saturday early afternoon.

  Highway 19. The flood waters will be up to 4 feet deep over the top
  of the boat ramp and cover a portion of the access road by the

* At 14 feet...Moderate flooding begins. Roads to homes along the

* At 6 AM Thursday the stage was 8.9 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding will continue.
* Flood stage is 7 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 10.0 feet by Friday
  morning. The river will fall below flood stage Sunday morning.
* At 10 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek from near 
  Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale 
  Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are 
  under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences 
  significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Hill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a two feet of 
  water.

* At 12 PM Thursday the stage was 15.3 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and 
  continue to rise to near 18.2 feet by tomorrow morning.The river 
  will fall below flood stage by tomorrow afternoon.
* At 18 feet...Minor flooding expands into the woodlands and fields
  along the river upstream and downstream from the gage by the 
  Walaska Street bridge. Large portions of recreational areas such as
  Boling Park behind the Cherokee County High School...the Cherokee 
  County Fairgrounds and the Etowah River Greenway at Heritage Park 
  will be flooded with up to two feet of water. The parking lot at 
  Boling Park will be under one foot of water.  Portions of the Mill 
  Industrial Way Road begin to flood.

  merger of the river and Owltown Creek.

  The American Legion Post 82 building and the Georgia Power 
  Substation next to the Post are flooded with around 3 feet of 
  water.  Most of the Harold Hefner River Park is flooded with a few 
  feet of water.

* No flooding is occurring at this time...however Minor flooding is

* Flood stage is 22 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by early Firday and continue 
  to rise to near 25 feet by Saturday morning. The river will fall 
  below flood stage before midnight Sunday night.
* At 26 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the 
  woodlands...fields and pastures along the river upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on U S Highway 41 or Battlefield Parkway.

* No flooding is occurring at this time...however Minor flooding is

* Flood stage is 18 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage tonight and continue to rise 
  to near 22.2 feet by Saturday morning. The river will fall below 
  flood stage by Sunday afternoon.
* At 21 feet...Minor flooding continues to expand further into the 
  woodlands...fields and pastures along the river upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on the Brackett Ridge Road bridge.
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 23.3 feet on May 8 2013.

  For the Etowah River near Canton.
* Until Friday evening.
* At 7 PM Thursday the stage was 16.9 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 16 feet.
* The river will continue rising to near 17.8 feet after midnight 
  Friday morning. The river will fall below flood stage Friday
  afternoon.
* At 18 feet...Minor flooding expands into the woodlands and fields
  along the river upstream and downstream from the gage by the 
  Walaska Street bridge. Large portions of recreational areas such as
  Boling Park behind the Cherokee County High School...the Cherokee 
  County Fairgrounds and the Etowah River Greenway at Heritage Park 
  will be flooded with up to two feet of water. The parking lot at 
  Boling Park will be under one foot of water.  Portions of the Mill 
  Industrial Way Road begin to flood.

* The river will continue rising to near 10.2 feet by Friday 
  morning. The river will fall below flood stage Sunday morning.
* At 10 feet...Minor flooding expands along the creek from near 
  Cumming to Alpharetta and Roswell. Backyards of homes off Seale 
  Drive and Gunter Court and portions of the Golf of Georgia are 
  under a foot of water. The Big Creek Greenway experiences 
  significant flooding up to 4 feet deep with closure of the paths. 
  This especially occurs upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  Kimball Bridge Road and Rock Hill Park. A large portion of the YMCA
  Campground off Preston Ridge Road will be under a two feet of 
  water.

* The river will continue to fall...dropping below flood stage this 
  evening.
* At 17 feet...Flood Stage is reached with minor flooding along the 
  creek upstream and downstream from the gage on Northside Drive. 
  Woodward Way becomes impassable with 1 to 4 feet of water on the 
  road. Front yards of homes will also be flooded. The Atlanta 
  Memorial Park and large portions of the Cross Creek and Bobby 
  Jones Golf Courses are flooded. Sections of Hanover West Drive and 
  backyards on portions of Peachtree Battle Avenue will be flood 
  with 1 to 2 feet of water.

AT 459 AM EST...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS
WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL OVER SOUTHERN COWETA AND NORTHERN MERIWETHER
COUNTIES. UP TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN OVER TROUP AND
MERIWETHER COUNTIES SINCE 2 AM. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 3 
INCHES ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH 8 AM IN THE WARNED AREA.

THE RAIN HAS TAPERED OFF OVER AREAS FURTHER SOUTH...HOWEVER RUNOFF

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO
HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO

* The creek is forecast to rise above flood stage by late this 
  afternoon and continue to rise...reaching near 13 feet by Saturday 
  evening. The creek is expected to fall below flood stage Sunday 
  evening.
* At 11 feet...Flood Stage is reached. Minor flooding begins in the
  woodlands and fields near the creek upstream and downstream from 
  the gage on the Georgia Highway 146 or Cloud Springs Road bridge. 
  Minor flooding of the creek can also be expected further downstream 
  as it crosses the Tennessee border into the south East Ridge area.

  At 13 feet...Minor flooding expands further into the woodlands 
  and fields near the creek upstream and downstream from the gage on 
  the Georgia Highway 146 or Cloud Springs Road bridge. Minor 
  flooding of the creek also expands much further downstream as it 
  crosses the Tennessee border into the south East Ridge area.

* Non flooding is occurring at this time...however Minor flooding is 
  forecast to develop.
* Flood stage is 25 feet.
* The river is forecast to rise above flood stage late this afternoon 
  and then continue rising...reaching near 26.6 feet by Saturday 
  morning. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by early 
  Sunday morning.
* At 24 feet...Bankfull conditions expand along the river upstream and 
  downstream from the gage on the Turner McCall bridge or U.S. Highway 
  27. The Heritage Park Rome Greenway continues to flood with some 
  locations up to 4 feet deep. The drainage valves must be closed at 
  the American Legion and Police Station Outfalls.

  At 25 feet...Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding occurs in the 
  woodlands and fields along the river upstream and downstream from 
  the gage on the Turner McCall bridge or U.S. Highway 27. The 
  Heritage Park Rome Greenway continues to flood with some locations 
  up to 5 feet deep. All drainage valves must be closed at the 
  outfalls in Rome. The flood gate on the Rome levee should also be 
  closed.

VERY STRONG JET MAX OF 150KTS DIVING SOUTH ON THE WEST COAST OF

REGION BY EARLY NEXT WEEK. BY LATE SATURDAY BOTH THE ECMWF AND GFS
CLOSE OFF A PRETTY STRONG UPPER LOW OVER NEW MEXICO SETTING THE
STAGE FOR BOTH SEVERE WEATHER AND HEAVY SNOWS IN THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS AND SOUTHERN ROCKIES. BOTH THE GFS AND ECMWF GENERALLY
AGREE ON LIFTING THAT SYSTEM NORTHEAST ALONG A VERY SIMILAR TRACK TO
THE CURRENT SYSTEM ACROSS TX..AR..AND INTO THE OHIO VALLEY. THE
DIFFERENCE IS THAT THIS SYSTEM IS A TAD CLOSER TO OUR AREA AND MAY
POSE MORE OF A SEVERE THREAT BY LATE MONDAY INTO EARLY TUESDAY.
HAVE INCLUDED LIKELY POPS DURING THAT PERIOD GIVEN THE RELATIVE
