NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0226 PM CDT TUE MAR 20 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...MUCH OF NORTHERN/SOUTHWEST LA

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 92...

VALID 201926Z - 202100Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 92 CONTINUES.

TORNADO WATCH 92 REMAIN IN EFFECT ACROSS MUCH OF
NORTHERN/WEST-CENTRAL/SOUTHWEST LA...WITH POTENTIAL FOR BOUTS OF
DAMAGING WINDS ALONG WITH A FEW TORNADOES AND LOCALLY
HEAVY/REPETITIVE RAINFALL.

A NNE-SSW ANGLING COMPOSITE OUTFLOW BOUNDARY CONTINUES TO SERVE AS A
FOCUS FOR PERSISTENT QUASI-LINEAR CONVECTION ACROSS LA AT MID
AFTERNOON...AND THIS TREND SHOULD CONTINUE AS IT MAKES A SLOW
EASTWARD-PROGRESSION INTO A RELATIVELY MOIST/WARM BOUNDARY LAYER IN
THE PRESENCE OF STRONG/DEEP SOUTHERLY FLOW. OWING TO BACKING
MID-LEVEL FLOW AND A LESS EXTENSIVE COLD POOL /RELATIVE TO FARTHER
NORTH/...THE PORTION OF THE QLCS ACROSS SOUTHWEST LA HAS APPEARED TO
HAVE SLOWED SOMEWHAT/REMAIN TEMPERED IN ITS EASTWARD PROGRESSION. A
MORE BALANCED COLD POOL/SHEAR INTERACTION COULD YET ALLOW FOR A BIT
OF AN UPSWING IN POSSIBLE LINE-EMBEDDED MESOVORTICES/SUPERCELLS
ACROSS SOUTHWEST LA...WITH THE LATEST WSR-88D VWP DATA FROM LAKE
CHARLES /MODIFIED FOR IMMEDIATE PRE-QLCS CONDITIONS/ INDICATIVE OF
0-1 KM SRH IN EXCESS OF 300 M2/S2. WIND DAMAGE/ISOLATED TORNADO
POTENTIAL WILL OTHERWISE PERSIST ACROSS CENTRAL/NORTHERN LA THIS
AFTERNOON IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE ADVANCING QLCS ITSELF...AND
PERHAPS A FEW IMMEDIATE PRE-QLCS STORMS/SUPERCELLS.
