MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1183
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1144 PM CDT FRI JUN 15 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...TX PANHANDLE...WEST AND NORTHWEST TX...

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 399...

VALID 160444Z - 160615Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 399
CONTINUES.

SUMMARY...AN ISOLATED SEVERE THREAT WILL CONTINUE WITH CONVECTION
MOVING EWD INTO NW TX. HOWEVER...THE THREAT SHOULD BECOME
INCREASINGLY MARGINAL AND AN ADDITIONAL WW ISSUANCE IS NOT
ANTICIPATED.

DISCUSSION...A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS ONGOING FROM JUST EAST OF
AMARILLO EXTENDING SWD TO JUST EAST OF LUBBOCK LOCATED NEAR A
MAXIMUM OF STRONG INSTABILITY. MLCAPE VALUES ARE ESTIMATED FROM 300O
TO 4000 J/KG IN THE SERN TX PANHANDLE AND THIS MAY ENABLE THE LINE
OF STORMS TO PERSIST FOR SEVERAL MORE HOURS. HOWEVER...RADAR TRENDS
SUGGEST OUTFLOW WITH THE CONVECTION HAS PUSHED WELL TO THE EAST INTO
THE LOW ROLLING PLAINS. THIS ALONG WITH A RELATIVELY WEAK SHEAR
ENVIRONMENT SUGGESTS THE WIND DAMAGE THREAT WILL BE MARGINAL. THE
STRONG INSTABILITY AND STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES SHOULD ALSO MAKE
HAIL A POSSIBILITY WITH THE STRONGER UPDRAFTS.
