THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  JOHNSTON COUNTY IN CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA

* UNTIL 1130 PM EDT

* AT 937 PM EDT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED
  THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAIN OVER THE WARNED AREA.

* SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING RAINFALL RATES BETWEEN ONE AND 
ONE AND A HALF INCHES PER HOUR WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHERN JOHNSTON 
COUNTY SHORTLY.  SECTIONS OF SOUTHERN JOHNSTON COUNTY HAVE ALREADY 
RECEIVED BETWEEN ONE AND THREE INCHES SINCE LATE AFTERNOON.  ANOTHER 
ONE TO TWO INCHES OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE AROUND BENSON AND FOUR OAKS 
BETWEEN 940 PM AND NOW AND 11 PM. 

THIS ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL WILL QUICKLY RUN OFF...RESULTING 
RAPID RISES ALONG SWIFT CREEK...HANNAH CREEK...BLACK CREEK...STONE
CREEK...BAWDY CREEK AND MOCCASIN CREEK. IF YOU LIVE NEAR OR BY A 
A CREEK...BE ALERT AND BE READY TO HEAD TO HIGH GROUND IF THE CREEK 
SUDDENLY RISES.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER
COVERS THE ROADWAY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDONED. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

WIDESPREAD RAIN WITH A FEW HEAVIER SHOWERS HAVE DECREASED IN 
INTENSITY ACROSS JOHNSTON COUNTY SINCE 1030 PM.  LOCAL LAW 
ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES HAVE RECEIVED NO REPORTS OF HIGH WATER OR WATER 
CROSSING ROADWAYS.  THUS THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR JOHNSTON COUNTY 
HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO EXPIRE.

AREAS OF RAIN WITH A FEW HEAVIER SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS 
JOHNSTON COUNTY THROUGH 1 AM.  DUE TO THE SATURATED SOIL...DITCHES 
ALONG COUNTY ROADS MAY BE FULL WITH WATER FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS.  
MOTORISTS TRAVELING IN THE RURAL AREAS OF JOHNSTON 
COUNTY...ESPECIALLY THE SOUTH END OF THE COUNTY NEAR BENSON...FOUR 
OAKS AND BENTONVILLE...NEED TO BE EXTRA ALERT FOR WATER CROSSING THE 
ROAD.
