000 WGUS54 KEWX 090147 FFWSAT TXC013-493-090445- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX 846 PM CDT TUE OCT 8 2002 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A * FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES... WILSON ATASCOSA * UNTIL 1145 PM CDT * AT 846 PM...WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED VERY HEAVY RAIN 20 MILES SOUTHWEST OF FLORESVILLE...OR ABOUT 5 MILES EAST OF PLEASANTON...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 10 MPH. THIS THUNDERSTORM HAS BEEN STATIONARY AT TIMES OVER EASTERN ATASCOSA COUNTY AND WILL BE MOVING INTO WILSON COUNTIES WHERE OTHER THUNDERSTORMS HAVE ALREADY PRODUCED OVER AN INCH OF RAIN IN SPOTS. RADAR TRENDS SUGGEST RAINFALL TOTALS OVER CENTRAL AND EASTERN ATASCOSA AND THE NORTHWEST HALF OF WILSON COUNTY COULD EXCEED 4 INCHES IN SPOTS BY 10 PM. THESE HEAVY RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL LIKELY PRODUCE FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS...POOR DRAINAGE AREAS...AND SECONDARY ROADWAYS. BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.
