THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BROWNSVILLE HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  SOUTHERN CAMERON COUNTY IN DEEP SOUTH TEXAS

* UNTIL 745 PM CDT

* AT 550 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR IN          
  BROWNSILLE INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL ALONG  
  A LINE EXTENDING FROM NEAR SAN BENITO TO 7 MILES SOUTHWEST OF SAN  
  BENITO TO 13 MILES SOUTH OF LA FERIA...MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 10 MPH. 
  DOPPLER RADAR ESTIMATED THAT THESE THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRODUCING     
  RAINFALL RATES FROM 2 TO 4 INCHES OVER A ONE HOUR PERIOD.  

* SLOW MOVING THUNDERSTORMS ARE PRODUCING TORRENTIAL RAINFALL IN THE
  WARNED AREA. RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH
  FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLASH
  FLOODING INCLUDE...SAN BENITO...HARLINGEN...BROWNSVILLE...RANCHO
  VIEJO AND LOS FRESNOS.

A FLASH FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS
IMMINENT. MOST FLASH FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT
ATTEMPT TO CROSS BRIDGES...DIPS...OR OTHER LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS
THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL
ONE...ON FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.

...THE FLASH FLOOD WARNING WHICH WAS IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHERN CAMERON 
COUNTY UNTIL 745 PM CDT HAS BEEN CANCELLED...

AT 640 PM CDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED 
THAT THE HEAVY RAIN PRODUCING THUNDERSTORM OVER SOUTHERN CAMERON 
COUNTY HAS MOVED SOUTH INTO MEXICO.  THIS HAS ENDED THE HEAVY RAIN 
OVER THE WARNED AREA FOR THE MOMENT. STREAMS AND CREEKS IN THE 
WARNED AREA HAVE RECEDED OR WERE BEGINNING TO RECEDE. EVEN THOUGH 
STREAM AND CREEK LEVELS ARE NOW FALLING...SOME ROADWAYS MAY STILL BE 
COVERED WITH WATER. MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID DRIVING THROUGH 
FLOODED ROADWAYS.

HOWEVER...A FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF DEEP 
SOUTH TEXAS UNTIL TUESDAY MORNING.  

RESIDENTS OF DEEP SOUTH TEXAS SHOULD REMEMBER THAT MOST DEATHS IN 
FLASH FLOODING OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS 
BRIDGES...DIPS...OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. 
NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT.
