SOUTHEAST TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX 205 PM CDT FRI JUN 29 2001 KHGX AND VIS/IR IMAGERY SHOW SCATTERED SHRA/TSRA OVER SERN TX EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. THE PRIMARY FORECAST ISSUES ARE POPS AND SEVERE/ HEAVY RAIN THREAT. THE 12Z NCEP MODELS ARE IN FAIR AGREEMENT... PREFER THE ETA/AVN NOW OVER THE NGM. SIMILARLY...PREFER GENERALLY HIGHER FAN/MAV POPS OVER FWC. NO BIG CHANGES IN THE FORECAST...THE UPPER LOW DRIFTS SWWRD TOWARD CNTRL TX AND SHEARS APART OVER THE NEXT 3-5 DAYS. THE SEVERE THREAT WILL INCREASE SOME AS 0-6 KM WIND SHEAR INCREASES AND MID-LEVEL TEMPS COOL. LIKEWISE...THE THREAT FOR MORE WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAIN INCREASES AS CONVECTION GETS MORE ORGANIZED AND PW INCREASES. TOO EARLY TO CONSIDER A FLASH FLOOD WATCH...BUT THE SITUATION WILL NEED CLOSE MONITORING THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WILL RE-ISSUE SPS WITH HIGHLIGHT TOWARD FOLKS FREQUENTLY CHECKING THE FORECAST.
