EASTERN OKLAHOMA/NORTHWEST ARKANSAS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK
115 PM CDT TUE JUN 1 1999

THERE WILL BE A RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. IN OKLAHOMA...THE
AREA OF CONCERN WILL GENERALLY BE SOUTH AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 44...
BEGINNING AS EARLY AS MID AFTERNOON. IN ARKANSAS THE THREAT WILL BE
LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING...ENDING BY AROUND MIDNIGHT.

.SYNOPSIS...
AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE AREA WILL HELP PUSH A WEAK COLD FRONT ACROSS
EASTERN OKLAHOMA THIS AFTERNOON AND INTO WESTERN ARKANSAS THIS EVENING.
AT MIDDAY...THE FRONT EXTENDED FROM EASTERN KANSAS TO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
AND SOUTHWEST INTO TEXAS. THIS FRONT WILL PROVIDE A LINE OF CONVERGENCE
FOR INITIAL THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT.

.DISCUSSION...
BY MID AFTERNOON...THE FRONT IS EXPECTED TO BE BETWEEN TULSA AND
OKLAHOMA CITY...PROVIDING CONVERGENCE FOR THUNDERSTORM INITIATION.
HOWEVER...VERY WARM AIR ALOFT WILL INHIBIT DEVELOPMENT UNLESS SURFACE
TEMPERATURES BECOME QUITE WARM...PERHAPS EVEN INTO THE LOWER 90S. THE
BEST AREA FOR THAT TO HAPPEN WILL BE MAINLY SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40...AND
AFTER 3 PM.

THE AIRMASS IS QUITE UNSTABLE WITH LIFTED INDICES AROUND -10 AND CAPE
VALUES OVER 4000. THIS INDICATES THAT ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT CAN
DEVELOP WILL BECOME SEVERE QUICKLY. HODOGRAPHS INDICATE THERE IS ALSO
SUFFICIENT WIND SHEAR FOR THE STORMS TO BECOME SUPERCELLS. HOWEVER...
LARGE HAIL...OVER 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...AND DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE THE
MAIN THREAT. THE SEVERE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO END OVER EASTERN OKLAHOMA
THIS EVENING...AND OVER NORTHWEST ARKANSAS BY AROUND MIDNIGHT.

.EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY AND SPOTTER ACTIVATION...EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT AGENCIES ACROSS EASTERN OKLAHOMA SHOULD BE PREPARED TO
ACTIVATE BY MID AFTERNOON. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCIES IN NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS SHOULD PREPARE FOR ACTIVATION LATER THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH THE
EVENING.
