THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MELBOURNE HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  BREVARD COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL FLORIDA

* UNTIL 1225 AM EDT

* AT 1025 PM... WEATHER RADAR INDICATED LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN STILL
OCCURRING IN AND AROUND THE MELBOURNE AREA FROM PALM BAY...TO
MELBOURNE...TO VIERA...TO ROCKLEDGE. THE HEAVY RAIN WAS NOT AS
CONTINUOUS AS EARLIER THIS EVENING BUT ADDITIONAL SHOWERS CONTINUE TO
MOVE INTO THE AREA. MOVEMENT WAS NORTH AT 15 MPH.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MELBOURNE HAS MEASURED 7.89 INCHES OF
RAIN SO FAR TODAY. OVER FOUR INCHES OF THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE 8 PM.
THE LOCATION WHICH HAS RECEIVED THE MOST RAIN HAS BEEN THE
WICKHAM ROAD AREA WHERE SOME EVACUATIONS OF HOMES HAVE BEEN REQUIRED.
ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN IS POSSIBLE THROUGH AT LEAST MIDNIGHT.
FLOOD WATERS WILL BE SLOW TO RECEDE SINCE THE GROUND HAS ALREADY
BEEN SATURATED OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF DAYS...AND CURRENTLY ALL
DRAINAGE DITCHES AND RETENTION PONDS ARE FULL. SOME ROADS REMAIN
IMPASSABLE.

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO
CROSS LOW SPOTS IF WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. NEVER TRY TO CROSS A
FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT. DRIVING HAS BECOME VERY
HAZARDOUS...ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS NIGHT TIME.

CURRENT...CONCENTRATED HEAVY RAIN HAS FOCUSED IN ON THE MELBOURNE
AREA. THE NWS OFFICE HAS RECEIVED OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN IN JUST
FORTY MINUTES AND STILL FALLING AT THIS EXCESSIVE RATE. A FLOOD
WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR BREVARD COUNTY SINCE THIS IS ON TOP OF
THE 3 TO 5 INCHES ALREADY RECEIVED IN THIS AREAS TODAY. CONCERNED
THAT MESOSCALE FOCUS MAY NOT SHIFT FOR SEVERAL HOURS YET.

REST OF TONIGHT...CONVECTION HAS DECREASED IN COVERAGE OVER EAST
CENTRAL FLORIDA...IN GENERAL. HOWEVER...NOT THE CASE FOR BREVARD AND
INDIAN RIVER. EXPECT SCATTERED POPS GOOD FOR TONIGHT INLAND
COUNTIES...BUT BETTER CHANCES NEAR THE COAST. MOISTURE CONTINUES TO
STREAM NORTHWARD RIDING UP OVER THE SHALLOW EAST FLOW AS SEEN ON THE
VWP.
