000 TTAA00 KNEW 090218 RRA SVRNEW LAC075-090315- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW ORLEANS LA 816 PM CST WED JAN 8 1997 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW ORLEANS HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 915 PM CST FOR RESIDENTS IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION... IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA ...SOUTHERN PLAQUEMINES PARISH AND THE ADJACENT COASTAL WATERS OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA. AT 815 PM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED A CLUSTER OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM NEAR GRAND ISLE SOUTH INTO THE GULF FOR 30 MILES. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE MOVING NORTHEAST AROUND 45 MILES AN HOUR. THE THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE ACROSS LOWER PLAQUEMINE PARISH BETWEEN NOW AND 915 PM. COMMUNITIES IN THE PATH OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS INCLUDE PORT SULPHUR...EMPIRE AND VENICE. WIND GUST IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH AND HAIL ARE POSSIBLE WITH THESE THUNDERSTORMS. A TORNADO WATCH IS ALSO IN EFFECT FOR THE WARNED ARrEA. REMEMBER SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY DO PRODUCE TORNADOES WITH LITTLE OR NO ADVANCE WARNING. REMAIN CALM BUT BE ALERT TO RAPIDLY CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS.
