000 TTAA00 KRDU 060644 FFWRDU NCC001-037-063-077-135-181-061145- BULLETIN - EBS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLASH FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH/DURHAM NC 242 AM EDT FRI SEP 6 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH/DURHAM HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 800 AM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN NORTH CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA ...ALAMANCE COUNTY...CHATHAM COUNTY...DURHAM COUNTY ...GRANVILLE COUNTY...ORANGE COUNTY...VANCE COUNTY AT 245 AM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED BANDS OF VERY HEAVY RAIN FROM HURRICANE FRAN MOVING NORTHWARD THROUGH EAST-CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA. THE RADAR ESTIMATES THAT THESE BANDS ARE PRODUCING SEVERAL INCHES OF RAIN IN A 1 TO 2 HOUR PERIOD...RAINFALL TOTALS HIGH ENOUGH TO CAUSE FLASH FLOODING DURING THE NEXT FEW HOURS. FLOOD WATERS ARE HARDER TO SEE AT NIGHT AND MOST FLASH FLOOD FATALITIES OCCUR AT NIGHT. AVOID DRIVING ACROSS FLOODED ROADWAYS. WATER TWO FEE T DEEP CAN FLOAT MOST CARS OFF THE ROAD. REPORT FLOODING TO LOCAL EMERGENCY OFFICIALS IMMEDIATELY.
