000 TTAA00 KMHX 081230 FFWMHX NCC013-079-117-147-081530- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEWPORT NC 830 AM EDT TUE OCT 8 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEWPORT HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1130 AM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN EAST CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA ...BEAUFORT COUNTY...GREENE COUNTY...MARTIN COUNTY ...PITT COUNTY AT 825 AM RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES HAVE BEEN REPORTED ACROSS THE REGION. DOPPLER RADAR IN NEWPORT INDICATES HEAVY RAIN WILL CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 2 HOURS. ADDITIONAL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WITH THE GROUND ALREADY SATURATED THE THE ADDITIONAL RAIN WILL LEAD TO FLOODING OF LOW LYING...URBAN AND POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. PERSONS WHO LIVE IN FLOOD PRONE AREAS ARE URGED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT PROPERTY. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY.
