000 TTAA00 KMHX 081026 FFWMHX NCC031-049-061-103-107-133-137-081430- BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED FLOOD WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEWPORT NC 629 AM EDT TUE OCT 8 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEWPORT HAS ISSUED A FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 1030 AM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN EAST CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA ...CARTERET COUNTY...CRAVEN COUNTY...DUPLIN COUNTY ...JONES COUNTY...LENOIR COUNTY...ONSLOW COUNTY...PAMLICO COUNTY AT 620 AM MOST OF THE REGION HAD RECEIVED BETWEEN 2 AND 3 INCHES OF RAIN SINCE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED BANDS OF SHOWERS WITH TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NORTHEAST ACROSS THE AREA THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF 2 TO 3 INCHES IS LIKELY OVER MUCH OF THE WARNED AREA. WITH THE GROUND ALREADY SATURATED MORE RAIN WILL LEAD TO FLOODING OF URBAN...AND LOW LYING AREAS. PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT PROPERTY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND AS WATER LEVELS RISE. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS SAFELY. VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE AhBANDONED QUICKLY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND. RF/JCI
