000 TTAA00 KATL 161631 SVRATL GAC047-295-313-161715- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PEACHTREE CITY GA 1231 PM EDT MON SEP 16 1996 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL 115 PM EDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS... IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA ...CATOOSA COUNTY...WALKER COUNTY...WHITFIELD COUNTY AT 1229 PM EDT RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER WALKER COUNTY MOVING NORTHEAST AT 25 MPH. THE STORMS WILL PASS ACROSS SOUTH CATOOSA COUNTY AND INTO WHITFIELD COUNTY DURING THE NEXT HALF HOUR. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND IN EXCESS OF 55 MPH...DESTRUCTIJVE HAIL...DEADLY LIGHTNING...AND VERY HEAVY RAIN. FOR YOUR PROTECTION MOVE TO AN INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR OF YOUR HOME OR BUSINESS. HEAVY RAINS FLOOD ROADS QUICKLY SO DON'T DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.

THE AIRMASS OVER GEORGIA IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SPREADING EASTWARD FROM ALABAMA. THE THREAT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON AS AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE OVER WESTERN TENNESSEE AND MISSISSIPPI APPROACHES THE STATE. THE MAIN THREAT WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES.
