THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN COLUMBUS HAS ISSUED A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING EFFECTIVE UNTIL  515 AM EDT
FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS...
 
IN WEST CENTRAL GEORGIA
 
   ...MACON COUNTY...SUMTER COUNTY
 
AT 213 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RADAR INDICATED MODERATE TO
HEAVY RAIN WITH A FEW THUNDERSTORMS OCCURING ACROSS SUMTER COUNTY AND
MACON COUNTY. MOVEMENT WAS SLOWLY TO THE EAST AND NORTHEAST.
 
MANY LOW-LYING AREAS ALONG CITY STREETS WITHIN MONTEZUMA...OGLETHORPE
AND AMERICUS HAVE BECOME FLOODED AS THE RESULT OF HEAVY RAINS DURING
PAST SEVERAL HOURS.  ADDITIONALY...VARIOUS SECTIONS OF HIGHWAYS WITHIN
MACON AND SUMTER COUNTIES HAVE BECOME WATER-COVERED...THUS PROMPTING
SOME CLOSURES.
 
PERSONS IN MACON AND SUMTER COUNTIES SHOULD USE CAUTION WHILE TRAVELLING
DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS AS FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE.
 
BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE
THE DANGERS OF FLOODS AND FLASH FLOODS.  IF FLASH FLOODING IS
OBSERVED...ACT QUICKLY.  MOVE UP TO ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS.  DO
NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN WATER BEGINS RISING.
 
DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY.  THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO
CROSS SAFELY.  VEHICLES CAUGHT IN RISING WATER SHOULD BE
ABANDON ED QUICKLY.  MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.
