000 TTAA00 KSLC 080006 SVRSLC UTC049-080200- BULLETIN - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR HIGH WINDS NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT 600 PM MDT THU MAY 7 1992 THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SALT LAKE CITY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR HIGH WINDS EFFECTIVE UNTIL 800 PM MDT FOR PEOPLE IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATION...... IN CENTRAL UTAH ...UTAH COUNTY A HIGH WIND WARNING HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR UTAH COUNTY UNTIL 8 PM FOR MICROBURST WINDS WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH OR MORE WITH AREAS OF BLOWING DUST AND DEBRIS. STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ARE OVER MUCH OF UTAH COUNTY AT 6 PM. THESE THUNDERSTORMS ARE CAUSING STRONG WINDS. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL REPORTS OF GUSTS IN THE 50-55 MPH CATEGORY. THE THUNDERSTORMS ARE MOVING VERY SLOWLY WESTWARD. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO SECURE ANY LOOSE MATERIALS WHICH COULD BECOME AIRBORNE AND PRODUCE DAMAGE TO PEOPLE OR PROPERTY. ERC 0005Z

LIGHTNING DETECTION EQUIPMENT SHOWS THUNDERSTORMS HAVE BEGUN
DEVELOPING OVER UTAH ONCE AGAIN. AT NOON THEY WERE MAINLY CONFINED TO
THE WASATCH AND UINTA MOUNTAINS AND ALONG THE BOOK CLIFFS OF
NORTHEAST UTAH.
THEY ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOP AND BE SCATTERED OVER THE
ENTIRE STATE LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING.
BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL...GUSTY WINDS IN THE 30-40 MPH CATEGORY...
FREQUENT LIGHTNING...AND SOME SMALL HAIL ARE POSSIBLE WITH SOME OF
THESE STORMS.
RESIDENTS AND TRAVELERS THROUGH UTAH SHOULD BE ALERT FOR
THUNDERSTORMS AND SEEK SHELTER WHEN STORMS APPROACH. BRIEF HEAVY
RAINFALL MAY CAUSE SMALL STREAMS AND UNDERPASSES TO FILL...CAUSING
POOLING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS AND IN LOW LYING AREAS. STRONG

...THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUING OVER UTAH...
THUNDERSTORMS ARE CONTINUING TO DEVELOP OVER UTAH LATE THIS
AFTERNOON. THE MAIN ACTIVITY AT 4 PM WAS OVER NORTH CENTRAL AND
EXTREME NORTHWEST UTAH. THUNDERSTORMS IN THESE AREAS HAD TOPS
BETWEEN 40,000 AND 45,000 FEET.
GUSTY WINDS HAVE BEEN THE MAIN PRODUCT OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS SOFAR.
THE STRONGEST GUSTS REPORTED HAVE BEEN 55 MPH AT PROVO-BYU AND 41 MPH
AT THE SALT LAKE AIRPORT. RAINFALL AMOUNTS HAVE BEEN SMALL WITH ALTA
REPORTING THE MOST AT .13 INCHES THIS AFTERNOON. SMALL HAIL WAS ALSO
REPORTED AT ALTA. LIGHTNING HAS BEEN FREQUENT AND COVERS MUCH OF THE
STATE.
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO BE ACTIVE UNTIL DARK
ESPECIALLY IN NORTHERN UTAH...AND THEN SLOWLY DECREASE WITH MOST
ACTIVITY ENDING AROUND MIDNIGHT. THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE
TO CAUSE STRONG GUSTY WINDS WITH SOME GUSTS TO NEAR 50 MPH...BRIEF
HEAVY RAINFALL...FREQUENT LIGHTNING...AND SOME SMALL HAIL.
RESIDENTS AND TRAVELERS THROUGH UTAH SHOULD BE ALERT FOR
