- Heat in West Virginia, July 10, 2019Early and mid July were dominated by a ridge, with hot and humid conditions most days. On July 10th, an elderly male went missing while out picking berries in the forest. He was found deceased that evening.

- Heat in West Virginia, February 21, 1997Afternoon temperatures reached into the 70s across the western lowlands, with 60s over the mountainous counties. Milton and Charleston had 78 degrees. Elkins, Parkersburg, Huntington, Beckley, and Clarksburg all set records for the date.
- Heat in West Virginia, January 1 to 5, 1997A unusually long warm spell carried over into the new year fromlate December. The warmest temperatures were on the 4th and5th, with afternoon readings in the 60s and lower 70s. Overnightreadings were unusually mild too, with upper 40s to upper 50scommon.
- Heat in West Virginia, December 6, 1998A prolong warm spell from late November continued for the first week of December. The warmest temperatures came on the 6th. Readings of 70 to 75 degrees were common in the lowlands, with 60s in the mountains.
- Heat in West Virginia, September 14 to 15, 1998The hottest temperatures of the summer occurred. The dry weather pattern during the late summer contributed to this unusual mid September heat. Temperatures reached the mid and upper 90s in the lowlands, with upper 80s and lower 90s in the mountainous counties.
- Heat in West Virginia, March 26 to 31, 1998An unusually prolong stretch of early spring heat lasted 6 consecutive days, The warmest readings occurred on the afternoon of the 30th and 31st. Afternoon temperatures were in the 80s for the lowlands, with 70s across the mountainous counties.
- Heat in West Virginia, February 11, 1999Afternoon temperatures reached well into the 70s across the lowlands, with 60s in the mountains. A few representative maximum readings include 78 degrees at Weston and Creston, 77 degrees at Clay, and 76 degrees at Huntington, Charleston, and Parkersburg.
- Heat in West Virginia, January 22, 1999Afternoon temperatures reached the 70s in the lowlands, with 50s and 60s in the mountains. Preliminary data indicated Hamlin and downtown Huntington were the warmest with 78 degrees.

Daytime readings in the 50s and 60s were common across the lowlands. The warmest days were on the 4th, 5th, and 14th. Hamlin had 81 degrees, while Madison observed 80 degrees on the 5th.

Temperatures on the 4th through early on the 7th were oppressively hot, and extremely humid conditions added to the misery.
- Heat in West Virginia, June 7 to 9, 1999High pressure centered over the Southeast U.S. caused air to downslope over the Appalachian Mountains, sending afternoon temperatures into the upper 90s to lower 100s. The heat, in combination with very humid air, resulted in afternoon heat indices between 100 and 110 degrees.

- Heat in West Virginia, July 20 to 23, 2011The heat and humidity levels peaked from Wednesday the 20th into Saturday the 23rd. High temperatures in the low and mid 90s were common. Overnight low temperatures only dropped into the low and mid 70s for a few hours near dawn.
- Heat in West Virginia, March 8, 2000High pressure over the Eastern Seaboard and warm southerly winds on the 8th resulted in sunny skies and temperatures over 20 degrees above normal. High temperatures included 85 degrees at Moorefield, 83 degrees at Petersburg, 82 degrees at Mathias, and 75 degrees at Bayard.

- Heat in West Virginia, May 6 to 9, 2000Mostly sunny skies and southerly winds brought to the region by an area of high pressure pushed temperatures well above normal from the 6th through the 9th. Afternoon temperatures reached into the mid 80s to lower 90s, compared to a normal high in the mid 70s.
- Heat in West Virginia, June 12 to 13, 2001High pressure in combination with southerly winds brought hot, hazy, and humid conditions to the Mid Atlantic region between June 12th and 13th. High temperatures soared to around 90 degrees and heat indices reached near 100 degrees through the period.
- Heat in West Virginia, June 27 to 30, 2001High pressure in combination with southerly winds brought hot, hazy, and humid conditions to the Mid Atlantic Region between June 27th and 30th. High temperatures soared into the lower 90s and heat indices reached into the lower 100s through the period.
- Heat in West Virginia, August 6 to 10, 2001High pressure brought ample sunshine and warm southerly winds to the region between the 6th and the 10th. Afternoon temperatures soared into the 90s and dew points in the 60s pushed heat indices to between 95 and 108 degrees.
- Heat in West Virginia, July 2 to 4, 2002High pressure remained stationary off the Delmarva coastline during the 1st week of July. This resulted in a prolonged period of hot and humid weather across the Mid Atlantic region.
- Heat in West Virginia, July 28 to 29, 2002A large area of high pressure sat off the Mid-Atlantic coast during the last week of July. This caused a warm and moist south wind to blow into the region for several days, resulting in another heat wave.
- Heat in West Virginia, August 1 to 5, 2002High pressure off the Atlantic Coast pumped hot and humid air into the Mid-Atlantic region. This caused high temperatures to reach between 92 and 100 degrees August 1st through the 5th.
- Heat in West Virginia, August 12 to 19, 2002High pressure sitting off the Atlantic coastline pumped hot and humid air into the region between August 12th and 19th. Temperatures soared well into the 90s during the afternoon each day and heat index values approached 100 degrees.
