- Flash Flooding and Coastal Flood in South Carolina, December 17, 2023A low pressure system developed over the Gulf of Mexico and tracked northeast across the Florida Peninsula in the early morning hours of December 17th, then strengthened across warm Atlantic waters while passing along the Southeast Coast, bringing impacts in the form of major…
- Flash Flooding and Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 1 to 5, 2015A historic flooding event affected the Carolinas from October 1-7, 2015. A stalled front offshore combined with deep tropical moisture streaming northwest into the area ahead of a strong upper level low pressure system to the west and Hurricane Joaquin well to the east.
- Tornadoes and Tropical Storm in South Carolina, September 5, 2019Hurricane Dorian strengthened to a Category 5 hurricane as it moved through the Bahamas, with devastating damage. It weakened as it moved up the eastern seaboard. The hurricane was a strong Category 1 as it passed just east of Bald Head Island.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, June 22, 2009Anomalously high Perigean Spring Tides resulted in significant coastal flooding along the South Carolina coast.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, November 5 to 8, 2021Astronomical and meteorological factors combined to produce a significant multi-day coastal flood event along portions of the southeast South Carolina coast. A new moon occurred on 11/4 and the lunar perigee peaked on 11/5, producing the highest astronomical tides of the year.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 8, 2010High astronomical tides resulted in shallow coastal flooding across much of the southern South Carolina coast, with some localized areas along the immediate coast receiving some property damage.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 27 to 28, 2015A combination of persistent and strong east/northeast winds, the perigean spring tide and a full moon produced 2 days of elevated high tide cycles along the southeast South Carolina coast.
- Flash Flooding and Coastal Flood in South Carolina, December 2, 2009A strong surface low developed over the northern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday morning and intensified as it shifted northeast over South Carolina.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 10, 2025Strong northeast winds resulting from high pressure inland and developing low pressure offshore along with astronomical influences associated with a recent full moon and perigee led to coastal flooding along coastal Southeast South Carolina.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, September 19 to 21, 2020Major coastal flooding impacted portions of the southeast South Carolina coast as astronomical high tides were elevated due to the perigee and a new moon cycle.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, June 23, 2009Anomalously high Perigean Spring Tides resulted in significant coastal flooding along the South Carolina coast.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, August 29 to 30, 2019Strong and persistent northeast winds in wake of a front along with favorable astronomical factors led to a few days of moderate to major coastal flooding during high tide cycles near the Southeast South Carolina coast.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, September 15 to 16, 2020Major coastal flooding impacted portions of the southeast South Carolina coast as astronomical high tides were elevated due to the perigee and a new moon cycle.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 11, 2025Persistent and strong northeast winds resulting from high pressure inland and low pressure offshore led to coastal flooding along coastal Southeast South Carolina.
- Flooding and Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 5 to 7, 2015A historic flooding event affected the Carolinas from October 1-7, 2015. A stalled front offshore combined with deep tropical moisture streaming northwest into the area ahead of a strong upper level low pressure system to the west and Hurricane Joaquin well to the east.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, September 26 to 30, 2015A combination of periods of persistent and strong northeast winds, the proxigean spring tides, and a full moon produced several days of elevated high tides. A few of the high tide cycles produced flooding along the southeast South Carolina coast, especially downtown Charleston.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, November 14, 2024The combination of the lunar perigee and the peak of the full moon cycle produced higher than normal astronomical high tides.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, August 2, 2023High pressure building from the north led to a favorable period of northeast winds and large tidal departures supportive of moderate to major coastal flooding along the southeast South Carolina coast.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, December 22, 2022The combination of the upcoming new moon and perigee led to conditions favorable for coastal flooding in Charleston County, South Carolina.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 9, 2025Strong northeast winds resulting from high pressure building inland and developing low pressure offshore along with astronomical influences associated with a recent full moon and perigee led to coastal flooding along the South Carolina coast.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, November 15, 2020Major coastal flooding impacted portions of the southeast South Carolina coast as astronomical high tides were elevated due to the perigee and a new moon cycle.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, September 9, 2022The combination of the lunar perigee and full moon produced some of the highest astronomical tides of the year along the southeast South Carolina coast.
- Coastal Flood and High Surf in South Carolina, October 29, 2007The combination of high pressure building into the Southeast U.S. and low pressure off the South Carolina and Georgia coastline, resulted in a tight pressure gradient across the area.
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 14 to 17, 2016High pressure building south over the region behind a passing cold front led to a strong north/northeast wind and long fetch over coastal waters, helping produce a series of elevated tides and shallow coastal flooding along coastal areas that had already seen severe beach…
- Coastal Flood in South Carolina, October 18, 2020Strong northeast winds developing between a coastal trough and high pressure along with astronomical influences led to coastal flooding in Charleston County.
