- Cold in Alabama, February 5, 1996A 71 YEAR OLD MALE DIED FROM COLD WEATHER IN THE PRICHARD AREA. THE TEMPERATURE DROPPED TO 11 DEGREES DURING THE NIGHT. EVIDENTLY, THE MAN FELL AND INJURED HIMSELF. WHEN HE FELL HE KNOCKED OVER A COUCH AND A SPACE HEATER HE USED TO KEEP WARM.
- Cold in Alabama, February 5, 1996A man believed to be in his 70s was found dead in his residence around noon on Monday.
- Cold in Alabama, March 8, 1996The body of a 59-year-old man was found under an Interstate overpass Friday morning. The man was lightly dressed so the cold weather was suspected at the cause of death.
- Cold in Alabama, January 5, 1999An elderly male was found dead on the floor in a tar paper shack. The temperatures in the Jackson area only reached the mid 30s the day before (January 4) and fell to 13 degrees that night. Many cities across the area had record low temperatures for January 5.
- Cold in Alabama, February 22, 2026News media reported a fatality due to hypothermia in Huntsville.
- Cold in Alabama, January 20, 2026Temperatures in the mid 20s and wind chill near 20 resulted in a fatality in Walker County due partially to hypothermia.
- Cold in Alabama, January 1, 2026Temperatures in the 20s on the morning of New Year's Day resulted in a fatality in Walker County due to hypothermia.
- Cold in Alabama, February 3 to 5, 1996A strong Arctic cold front brought extremely cold air to Alabama and west-central Georgia in on the 3rd, 4th and 5th. New record lows were established at numerous locations across the area. New records set included:Feb. 3rd Huntsville 7Feb.
- Cold in Alabama, January 6 to 7, 2014A strong arctic cold front moved through Central Alabama on Sunday night, January 5th. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph behind the front brought extremely cold air to the area, and wind chill values were in the teens and single digits through the day on Monday, January 6th.
- Cold in Alabama, December 24 to 26, 2022The coldest temperatures in about 10 years descended into the tri-state region during the Dec 24-26 period. Low temperatures dipped well down into the teens with high temperatures remaining in the 30s, and even at or below freezing in southeast Alabama on Dec 24th.
- Extreme Cold and Cold in Alabama, December 22 to 24, 2022Bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills arrived behind a very strong Arctic cold front. Wind chill values stayed zero or below for around 36 hours straight. In some cases, wind chills dropped into the -15 to -19 degree range for some locations.
- Extreme Cold and Cold in Alabama, January 20 to 22, 2025A cold wave resulted in temperatures and/or wind chills dropping to the +5 to -10 range at various times during the period from the 19th through the 22nd, mainly during the nighttime and early morning hours.
- Cold in Alabama, January 1 to 2, 2018A bitterly cold air mass overspread the Tennessee Valley on the morning of the 1st into the 2nd. North winds of 10 to 20 mph at times combined with very cold temperatures in the single digits and teens to produce wind chills of zero to 10 below.
- Cold in Alabama, January 25 to 27, 2026Wind chill temperatures dropped into the zero to 5 above zero range at times.
- Cold in Alabama, January 20 to 21, 2024After a brief moderation in temperatures on the 18th, more Arctic air arrived dropping wind chills once again below zero during the overnight of the 19th into the morning of the 20th, and again on the morning of the 21st.

- Cold in Alabama, January 15 to 17, 2024An Arctic airmass overspread the region after the recent snowfall. North winds combined with the very cold temperatures to produce dangerous cold weather from the 15th into the 17th.
- Cold in Alabama, January 6 to 7, 2014A record cold airmass overspread the region beginning on the evening of January 5th as a strong cold front moved through. Rain changed to a brief period of sleet and snowfall which produced a dusting of accumulation at most locations.
- Drought and Cold in Alabama, February 1 to 28, 2017Below normal rainfall totals and above normal temperatures across north central Alabama maintained the severe to extreme drought conditions.
- Extreme Cold and Cold in Alabama, January 16 to 17, 2018Temperatures falling into the lower teens combined with north winds lowered wind chills into the zero to 10 below zero range for most areas during the early morning hours of the 17th.
- Cold in Alabama, February 1, 2026Wind chill temperatures dropped into the 5 above to 1 above zero range.
- Cold in Alabama, February 19, 2015Very cold air overspread the region on the 18th behind an Arctic cold front. Temperatures dropped into the teens. Northwest winds diminished to 10 mph or less during the evening hours resulting in wind chills that briefly dipped to around zero.
- Cold in Alabama, January 16 to 17, 2009Arctic air pushed into the area behind a potent cold front, dropping temperatures below 10 degrees on the morning of the 16th. Wind chill values dipped below zero in Madison and Jackson counties.
