.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Friday night)
Issued at 1139 PM CST Wed Dec 31 2025

Happy New Year! A crisp start to 2026 will be seen with morning
lows in the upper 30s to low 40s across South Central Texas.
Surface high pressure over the Gulf will keep low level southerly
flow over the area in conjunction with upper level ridging. The
result will be another day of warmer temperatures than previous
days with highs mainly in the 70s areawide. A weak shortwave
approaches our area in the afternoon and evening bringing
increased mid and upper level cloud cover. Tonight, the cloud
cover generally clears from west to east with lows in the 50s.
With the highest moisture over the coastal plains early Friday
morning, patchy fog could be seen.

Friday is going to be downright hot for January with widespread
temperatures in the 80s and locations along the I-35 corridor, the
Rio Grande and over the coastal plains in the mid or even upper 80s.
Forecast temperatures are currently either at or above daily records
at Austin and San Antonio sites. Clear skies and warm downsloping
wind will lend its hand in the unseasonably warm day.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through next Thursday)
Issued at 1139 PM CST Wed Dec 31 2025

A weak cold front finishes moving through the area Saturday
morning, which will bring some relief to warm temperatures, though
it's pretty minimal with highs for the weekend still roughly
10-15 degrees above normal for early January. Highs Saturday range
from the 70s to low 80s with slightly "cooler" temperatures
Sunday in the 70s areawide. Southerly flow returns under ridging
aloft early next week bringing increased cloud cover and a warming
trend back to the area. It does appear daily records could again
be challeneged next week.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1139 PM CST Wed Dec 31 2025

VFR skies will continue through the next 30 hours with mainly thin
high clouds. Perhaps a pocket of mid-level ceilings could enter
the picture by 06Z Friday. Winds will be predominantly S/SW with
top sustained afternoon speeds mainly around or below 12 KT.
