Updated at 1253 PM PST Sun Feb 8 2026 * Temperatures remain well above normal today * A cold front passes across Northern NV tonight into Monday morning with light valley rain and mountain snow * Unsettled weather intensifies Monday night through Wednesday with snow levels lowering to valley floors during the overnight hours && .DISCUSSION... (This evening through next Saturday) WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: One final afternoon of near record temperatures before the next weather system makes itself known overnight. While the bulk of the system remains well to the west, a surface cold front will make its passage across northern Nevada overnight. The front will spark some light valley rain/mountain snow showers overnight, as well as significantly lowering temperatures for tomorrow with highs in the 40s. Some showers will linger in the Highway 50 corridor Monday but snowfall totals will be limited (under half an inch for valleys and passes) and roads will likely remain too warm for any accumulation. The bulk of the system arrives Tuesday, ahead of the trough making landfall along the California coast. Shower activity will expand across the forecast area, beginning as snow before transitioning to the valley rain/mountain snow mix as snow levels rise to about 7000 feet during the day with temperatures in the 40s before returning to the low 30s overnight. Shower activity begins to weaken on Wednesday and the afternoon hours will see clearing begin in Humboldt county before expanding east overnight. Breezy conditions are also expected in central Nevada, with gusts up to 35 mph expected. Daytime temperatures will be in the 40s, dropping to the 20s overnight. Some light shower activity will linger in central Nevada on Thursday but no new accumulation is anticipated. A weak ridge begins to build Friday and temperatures are expected to climb slowly through the weekend, however long range guidance shows another cold and wet system impacting Nevada early next week. Timing and impacts of this system are still highly uncertain and will likely remain so until after the first system clears the area. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: High confidence continues for unsettled weather and cooler temperatures through mid week. Confidence remains moderate for two rounds of valley rain/mountain snow. Model guidance regarding QPF and snow totals continues to change run to run and confidence remains low. There is moderate confidence for the active and wet pattern to continue into next week but confidence in the details is very low. No deviations from base NBM forecast. && .AVIATION...VFR conditions and winds 10KT or less expected at KTPH and KELY through the next 24 hours. KWMC/KBAM/KEKO/KENV can expect VFR conditions, periodic gusty winds and lowering ceilings through the evening hours, after which a line of showers is expected to pass over each site west to east. Showers are expected to drop ceilings to MVFR/IFR levels.
