What happened

The episode as NWS SHV wrote it up.

A weak surface frontal boundary became stationary across portions of Northeast Texas and North Louisiana during the afternoon of May 8th, as a shortwave trough traversed southeast into Oklahoma. Diurnal heating within a moist air mass contributed to strong instability near the front, with the upper trough resulting in enhanced large scale forcing for the development of scattered severe thunderstorms during the evening and overnight hours across portions of Northeast Texas, Southwest Arkansas, and Northern Louisiana. Several reports of large hail were received across Northwest Louisiana before the storms weakened after 2 am on the morning of the 9th.
