Little has changed in the short term forecast period. Showers and
thunderstorms are forecasted to continue each afternoon into the
evening hours across the western zones. This is thanks to an
upper-level ridge parked over the eastern half of the US, while
an upper-level trough sitting near Baja California. Precipitable
Water (PWAT) values continue to reach near the climatological
daily maximum indicating heavy rainfall is going to be prevalent.
Guidance also has these showers and storms training in certain
locations near the higher terrain. Given the ground is already
saturated especially across the western half of the forecast area,
a Flood Watch has been extended through Thursday night for
similar areas. Coverage in precipitation is expected to extend
further to the east as a mid-level shortwave trough moves north
of region tomorrow afternoon. High temperatures tomorrow will
remain in the mid to upper 80s across southeast New Mexico and the
northwestern Permian Basin, while areas across the central and
eastern Permian Basin into Stockton Plateau are forecasted to be
in the low to mid 90s. A similar pattern continues heading into
the long term.

A weak upper level high will remain over North Texas keeping near
normal temperatures in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico over
the weekend and into next week. The position of the high to our
east will also advect moisture into the area allowing rain chances
to continue, especially in the mountains west of the Pecos River.
This is the exact area that is in an exceptional drought due to
multiple years of below normal rainfall so this moisture is very
welcome.
Early next week a weak disturbance moves into West Texas and
becomes stationary destabilizing the atmosphere enough that we
could see some scattered showers developing farther east into the
Permian Basin. The effects of recent rains in the basin are
quickly diminishing and we could use more rainfall here as well.
Highs throughout the period will range from the 90s in the lower
elevations to the 80s in the mountains, not bad for late June.

slowly diminish over the next couple of hours across the region.
Overnight, VFR conditions and southeasterly winds are expected
across all TAF sites. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be

the scattered nature of this activity. Trends will be monitored
for potential inclusion in the TAF at a later issuance time.
