Afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s are expected Thursday afternoon, with triple digit heat becoming slightly more widespread across North Texas. It's possible the advisory will also need to be expanded to include more of Central Texas, but these decisions will be made either tonight or tomorrow. Hot weather is expected over the upcoming weekend, but temperatures will actually begin trending downward as an inverted upper level trough moves westward from the Mississippi River Valley. This will help weaken upper level ridging and subsidence across North and Central Texas, which will shave at least a few degrees off of high temperatures. The NBM continues to advertise the return of daily low rain chances across our far southeastern counties Sunday through the middle of next week. The rest of the region has a higher probability of remaining rain-free through the period. However, quite a few ensemble members are generating at least some low QPF towards the middle of next week. Therefore, there is at least a low potential for some rain chances to return to the rest of the region during this time period, but this will largely depend on how our upper level pattern evolves over the weekend and early next week.
