(This evening through next Thursday) Issued at 114 PM PDT Fri Jun 20 2025 WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Unseasonably vigorous upper low pressure system continues its eastward trek into the Great Basin this afternoon. An intense pressure gradient is helping to produce strong southwest winds, with observations showing 45 to 50 mph seen in parts of the forecast area. The winds and dry air mass have also produced critical fire weather conditions - please see fire discussion below. Look for the cold front to move through northern and central Nevada tonight and early Saturday morning, bringing in a much cooler air mass. In addition, chances for light, showery precipitation increase along and north of the I-80 corridor later tonight and Saturday. With the cold frontal passage, winds will shift to the northwest tonight and will be gusty on Saturday, though more modest in Humboldt County. Elevated to locally critical fire conditions are possible across much of the forecast area tomorrow afternoon. Temperature-wise, highs will only be in the upper 50s to mid 60s in northern Nevada with 60s and 70s in central Nevada tomorrow afternoon. By Saturday night, lows will be widespread in the upper 20s to upper 30s with mid 20s expected for the typical colder valleys. As a result, a freeze warning is in effect from midnight Saturday night to 8am Sunday morning. Those with gardens and other sensitive outdoor plants may need to take protective action. Saturday night looks to be the coldest night of the forecast period. Quiet and fair weather Sunday with temperatures remaining cool. Warming trend begins Monday with dry conditions forecast. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Confidence remains high on gusty winds through Friday evening and cooler temperatures this weekend. No modifications needed to grids at this time. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) VFR conditions are expected at all terminals through Saturday afternoon. Strong southwesterly winds are expected at all terminals through this evening with gusts ranging from 35 to 45 kts. Winds will diminish after midnight at all terminals. Light shower activity across northern NV is forecast for Sat AM hours but should not affect VIS or CIGS at northern terminals. Winds increase midday Sat with gusts to 22-30 kts through Sat PM. && .FIRE WEATHER... Red Flag Warning in continues through the late afternoon and evening for all fire weather zones through 11 PM PDT tonight. Strong southwesterly winds of 20-35 mph with gusts around 45 mph, paired with afternoon RH values near 15% or less have produced critical fire weather conditions. This is due to a dry cold front that will pass across the forecast area tonight and early Saturday morning. Winds will subsequently shift northwesterly once the front passes to the east. This feature will also increase precipitation chances along and north of the I-80 corridor, though amounts will remain very light, below 0.10 inches. Look for cooler conditions on Saturday with gusty northwesterly winds across the forecast area. Elevated fire conditions are likely to be in place across much of the forecast area Saturday afternoon, with pockets of critical conditions. Areal coverage threshold of critical conditions at this time is not expected to be reached.
