Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1008 PM PDT Wed Jul 23 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Below normal temperatures and afternoon breezes will continue into the weekend. * Outside of an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm in the Sierra Crest, dry conditions will continue into next week. && .DISCUSSION...through Tuesday. Cooler than normal temperatures will continue into the weekend courtesy of the lower than normal 500 mb heights over the Southwest. These lower heights are a result of the cut-off low churning off the coast of California. In addition to cooler than normal temperatures, we will also see breezy southerly winds pick up each afternoon thanks to this system. This low pressure system will continue to spin off the coast of Central California for a few days before shifting more inland and becoming an open wave as we head into the weekend. Ridging will begin to push back into the region early next week, allowing for temperatures to warm up to more seasonal values. With the aforementioned low pressure system sitting off the coast, we will find ourselves under dry southwesterly flow aloft. This will allow dry conditions to persist into early next week. The exception to this will be the Sierra Crest, where the cut-off low will provide just enough lift up the western side of the Sierra for isolated showers and thunderstorms to form across the ridgeline this afternoon. With limited moisture available, precipitation impacts are not expected. However, any convection that does develop will be capable of producing erratic gusty outflow winds and lightning. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...For Harry Reid...Southerly to southwesterly breezes continue through the TAF period, strongest during the daytime hours where gusts up to 20 knots are possible. Clear skies until scattered high clouds move in Thursday night. Temperatures around 100F between 22z and 02z. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Light breezes across the region tonight with southerly winds resuming Thursday morning. The exception to this is the KDAG area where winds remain westerly. Gusts generally 15-25 knots, strongest in the afternoon hours.
