.SYNOPSIS...
Heat and humidity remains rather high. A large upper ridge weakens
late in the week allowing temperatures to get closer to normal by
the weekend. A disturbance meandering over the Deep South will
yield scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms each day,
especially during the afternoon and evening hours. A weak cold
front reaches our region by Tuesday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 5:35 PM EDT Wednesday: A cluster of strong thunderstorms is
currently making its way southward towards the NC/SC state line.
We're also seeing a few isolated cells develop over the SC Upstate
and I-77 Corridor. This activity will continue to move southward
over the next few hrs with more warnings likely needed as it does.
This convection is occurring within a very favorable environment for
damaging winds with +5000 J/kg of surface-based CAPE, 1200-1400 J/kg
of downdraft CAPE, steep lapse rates within a residual Elevated
Mixed Layer and anomalously cool air aloft. The result is very high
micro-burst composite values of 10-13 which aren't commonly seen in
the Carolinas and Georgia. Over the next several hrs, deep
convection will increase in coverage as a weak boundary drops into
the area within an inverted trough axis. Initially, weak flow will
result in very slow storm motions but composite cold pools will
eventually take over and drive storm prorogation. These cold pools
will be fairly deep and should have no problem lifting parcels to
their LFCs and initiating new updrafts along the leading edge of
outflow boundaries. A more widespread damaging wind event may take
shape as multiple cold pools become organized and storm mergers
occur. As such, an Enhanced Risk has been added for damaging winds.
Isolated large hail cannot be ruled out either, but will be harder
to come by in light of weak deep-layer vertical wind shear. Storms
will dissipate with loss of daytime heating thru the evening along
with sufficient overturning of the atmosphere. A few sct showers may
linger as late as midnight, but the rest of the overnight should be
quiet. Mtn valley fog will once again be possible, if not expected,
especially in the Little Tennessee Valley.
Heading into Thursday, an upper low associated with a Tropical Upper
Tropospheric Trough will slide across Florida with broad upper
ridging extending over the Mid-Atlantic. Rain cooled air from
today's convection should allow temperatures to start off 5 to 7
degrees cooler tomorrow morning compared to today. Less influence
from the upper ridge will also help to keep highs a couple degrees
cooler as well. Regardless, highs will once again soar into the low
to mid 90s. A moist boundary layer will keep dewpoints in the low to
near mid 70s with the greatest com-bination of hot temperatures and
increased moisture along the I-77 Corridor in the Charlotte metro.
Have hoisted another Heat Advisory for tomorrow afternoon along and
east of I-77. Another round of diur-nally driven convection is
expected tomorrow, but coverage and intensity should be notably
lower compared to today. The atmosphere will have to recover
sufficiently following today's storms and the residual EML will have
shifted out of the area. Forecast soundings are still supportive of
a few strong to severe storms with wet microbursts and the
advertised marginal risk from the Storm Prediction Center appears
justified.

.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
As of 300 PM EDT Wednesday: The upper ridge will continue to weaken
and retreat off the eastern seaboard in response to the approach
of a mid-latitude trough from the Great Lakes/Midwest. The cutoff
low over FL is stalled underneath the ridge, but it will start to
drift slowly northward Thursday night as the rex block breaks down
and the low interacts with the upstream trough.
The pattern will remain unsettled with showers and storms expected
each day. Coverage should be enhanced with an upper diffluent
pattern in between the FL low and mid-latitude trough. Additionally,
terrain circulations and a lee trough will provide low-level focus
for convection both days. Rain chances are accordingly high in
the mountains and foothills (likely PoP), tapering to chance PoPs
in the eastern piedmont. Weak shear profiles and a more moderate
level of instability will limit the severe thunderstorm risk,
the environment will continue to support strong wet microbursts
during peak heating. SPC has included the area in a marginal risk
on Friday accordingly. Additionally, with very weak steering flow
below 500 mb, storm motion will be slow, yielding a very local
threat of heavy rainfall and flooding.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 300 PM EDT Wednesday: The upper low will continue to meander
over the Deep South through the end of the weekend. A stronger
mid-latitude trough will eventually progress eastward, allowing a
cold front to reach the area by the early to mid portion of next
week (there are some timing differences for the front's arrival but
Tuesday appears most likely). This will result in the continuation
of a wet weather pattern with diurnally-driven showers and storms
Sunday and Monday. Precipitation coverage looks highest on Tuesday
with the front. An uptick in the threat for severe thunderstorm
and heavy rainfall/flooding is anticipated as well.

.AVIATION /00Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
At KCLT and elsewhere: Clusters of strong thunderstorms are currently
moving south of most of our taf sites, although KCLT and KAND still
have TEMPOs for TSRA for the first couple hrs of the 00z taf period.
After that, a have VCTS thru late tonight at KCLT and our Upstate
terminals for any lingering convection. After midnight, conditions
should be mostly quiet thru the morning. Mtn valley fog will once
again be likely in the Little TN Valley and may develop at KAVL.
As such, I included some MVFR visby at KAVL beginning overnight,
but they could certainly end up going lower. Otherwise, another
round of sct afternoon/evening convection is expected tomorrow,
but coverage and intensity shouldn't be as much as today. Winds
will be light and VRB thru most of the taf period.
Outlook: Daily chances for afternoon/evening showers and thunder-
storms continue into the weekend. Fog and/or low stratus will be
possible each morning in the usual mtn valleys as well as near lakes
and rivers.
